Yes and no. To you and me, yes. To a noob, no. It's easy to make assumptions about what we mean and what others may or may not know. We've been in this hobby for years. A new guy hasn't. I just expounded for the OP's benefit, since I think it's probably safe to assume he hasn't transported or set up a CRT projector before.

Yeah youre probably right there, transporting them can be an issue...

I'm new to CRT projectors, but not CRT. Just this last September I dragged my dad along on a 3/4ish hour round trip to pick up a 300lb 36" Sony Trinitron (For retro gaming). Also got a 51" RPTV from the same guy that we had to take apart to get in the van.
The projector should be a pleasant change of pace.
I think I have a pretty good idea of what it takes to set them up and honestly, I'd rather have that than a plug-and-play option. I prefer the feeling of accomplishment I'll get after hours of winching it up to the ceiling and trying to get it setup properly, only to come back the next day and do it all over again because I know, I just know I can do better...
CRT projection seems like the perfect fit for me.

There is no plug and play option for big screen retro gaming, you should know that.
If that 36" Sony is one of those that forces a scale to 31.5kHz, its pretty near useless for retro gaming... Unless you bought it for a Dreamcast...

I'm new to talking in terms of bandwidth... But you're just talking about the TV not handling 240p correctly, right? I did a good bit of research before getting that TV, a lot of people recommended it specifically for retro gaming. I've got my Genesis hooked up to it and it has scan lines... Not sure what else you could be talking about, care to elaborate?
The 51" doesn't handle 240p correctly, however. It draws each line twice to get 480 iirc...

Im not familiar with the model of Sony. But yes i do mean in terms of many Sonys molesting the 15.7kHz signal from retro consoles such as the Megadrive.
480p at 60Hz is a 31.5kHz scanrate, i think youll find the TV does a bit more to the image than just draw each line twice. Problem with those sets is they force every signal through their f***en terrible internal scaler, and the deflection circuitry is only designed for one h-scan rate.
Every single CRT TV or projector has scanlines, regardless of whether or not you can see them. Almost every single CRT TV will handle 240p without an issue, but quite a few wont display it as such without converting it to something else, usually very poorly.

I only meant visible scanlines (Which aren't really scanlines at all. It's where the scanlines aren't).
But I'm pretty sure that the RPTV is a bit unique in that it is sort of multisync capable. It will either display 480p or 1080i, without scaling like most RPTVs of the time. Of course it screws up 240p, but it's not scaling it all the way up to 1080i as far as I can tell (And I'm pretty picky about scaling).
I run the PS2/Wii and up on the projector TV, and everything before that on the Trinitron. Works well enough for now... The worst thing about the Trinitron is the poor geometry, which is apparently common on the larger CRTs. I found this out after plugging it in for the first time.
I haven't gotten a setup to get RGB off the genesis yet, so it looks awful through RF. That's kinda where I stopped before getting busy with other things... But to get RGB to the Trinitron, I'd have to either mod it or get an active component/RGB converter and hope for the best. But if I went projector, I should be able to just hook the RGB straight into it, correct?
Earlier you said the 1272 wasn't good for much but retro gaming... But shouldn't the 8500LC also be able to handle a 240p signal properly? That said, I'd imagine it's a bad idea as far as burn in.
My Dad found a Panasonic projector at work and of course didn't get the full model number or tube condition but from what I can tell it's either the 1083 or 1085... Would either of those be decent enough for big screen Genesis dance party fun?

All CRT projectors will display a perfect 240p signal apart from the Cine 9 and 909.
You can fix the geometry on that Sony in the service menu usually

You can change the vertical geometry, but not the horizontal which is what's badly messed up.
I might end up passing that monster along and getting a separate CRT projector just for retro.

The Panasonic projector would be fine for your Megadrive. Theyre a 15.7kHz only projector.
