I will make a photo the next time to show you how it looks like. The bow is more in the bottom half of the picture. It is not from top to bottom. |
No problem at all. Im happy to help.
The bow is like that because you need to set the keystone correctly as well as all the other settings, sounds like your linearity is also abit out. Key and pin go hand in hand, and must be adjusted all together to make perfect geometry, and the amplitude must be pretty near where youll use it before you can finalise key and pin. Linearity is pretty near set once and forget, the other settings have virtually no real impact on it.

Oh my god. What a great setup guide.
And a again a complete reset from setup.
But one thing ...
I have no RASTER SHIFT like the NEC XG. So I must do this with the convergence rings and after that i must also adjust the astig.

There is raster shift rings on the deflection yoke. Use those, dont touch the astig rings unless youre doing astig

Oh my god i totaly forgot about the centering rings. I'm such an idiot
Now i really need to start from scratch.
As the projector is ceiling mounted is there an easy way to measure the center of the tubes to place the raster correctly?

You need to look to the edges, dont worry about the middle. When it is about the same distance from both edges youre set.

Back again.
I did a full setup last night (3 hours) with the help of your instructions.
My old problem with the bow in the lower half of the screen with ) and ) is also with this setup if the horizontal amplitude is set too low.
As I did a setup for 16:9 and 21:9 i raised the amplitude width with the H.Width Pot a little to get the full width for 21:9 and no bow if the amp is set for 16:9. If i go lower the bow is coming again. In 21:9 there is now a little space between raster and the border of the tube. How low can i go without risk? Some mention 1cm and other are using the full tube width !?!?
Picture is great now and i am really thankfull for your help.

You need to look at the image to tube width, not so much the raster. The raster will be blanked off to the edge of the image.
Adjusting pin balance fixes the ) ) issue, thats what its for. If phase is set correctly, adjusting the amplitude will not affect bow, as bow is adjusting the middle of the image. It also moves the outer portions of that image, but you then correct this with pincushion and pin balance.
Pincushion will move ( l ) to ) l ( and pin balance will go from ( l ( to ) l )
Keystone will go from / l \ to \ l / and key-balance will go from / l / to \ l \
Tilt/skew will go / / / to \ \ \ and bow will go ( ( ( to ) ) ) .Theyre global adjustments, they move the whole image.
If the center is l and only the sides are ( or / you need to adjust key or pin.
Does that help?

I know of the settings. I got the service manual and there are the pictures what these settings do.
I think my description is misunderstood.
When i change the horizontal amplitude too low the bow is coming in the lower half of the image. If i go lower the bow on both sides is moving upwards.
So i can only use pin balance if the bow on both sides are in the middle of the picture.

You have keystone set wrong or something else is set wrong. When the PINCUSHION is wrong like that it is one of those settings, or line distortion if your set has that. Amplitude affects the pincushion on all CRTs.
Bow has nothing really to do with the sides. Its the middle of the screen. You can call it bow, but its not, its pincushion, and when you use the term bow, youre refering to an adjustment made to the center cross.

What is amplitude set to that youre unable to correct the pincushion?

Ok. I'm understanding. My mistake
So i have no bow in the picture. It is the Pin Balance which is moving up and down if i change the amplitude.
When I use 21:9 my amplitude is set to +100 with no Pin Balance problem.
I don't know the setting in the 16:9 setup but at the moment there is also no problem.
After my setup with your instructions i only get the problem when the amplitude is set lower as for my 16:9 setup.

Why are you at 100? Set it back lower and increase the H width pot.
Where is the image placed within the raster in terms of vertical placement? If its high in the raster, youll get what youre seeing ( however line distortion should fix it ), because there is a heap of blank lines being drawn after the image, meaning any adjustment is not having an effect where youd expect it to be.

Are you trying to run this thing for constant image height???

Yes. I have a 21:9 cinema screen and would like to use it with 21:9 and 16:9 video format with the help of side masking.
Would it be of no difference if i set the amplitude to 100 or use the h.width pot?
In my setup the first thing was the setup of the phase to center the grid and then also to center the video image. So it should be in the center. I will look at it after work.

What timings are you running for 2.35:1?
Constant image height is going to cause some issues for you when tubes wear unevenly.
If it was me, id have that pot wound up and amplitude at +50, i dont like seeing settings driven to their far ends.

I use my old media player for running 720P@60. I wanted to use my HTPC but I only get a running picture from my graphics card if i set a resolution higher than 800x600. I think it has to do with the polarity from the card.
Maybe i can change the h.width pot a little to use a lower amplitude in 21:9 setup but i fear that i have the problem with the pin balanche in my 16:9 setup again.

It wont change the issue. It just means youre not running settings maxed out to their limits.
The polarity shouldnt matter, NECs are pretty easy going when it comes to signals.
