Swap more boards.
Think you can exclude the horizontal, the vertical and the video boards. You tried the smps, the quad, the splitter and the convergence tray.
So left are:
1-the h-shift and focus board
2-The second smps (next to the smps) (g2/diagnostics)
3-The EHT (last part of the high voltage chain)
4-The neckboards and the focus yokes and the tubes.
For point 4 the fault should be in all three so that is less likely but not impossible. Should try that as last resort.
I think the first to try is board 1. That seems very likely because there the focus voltage is created. First I was thinking the focus voltage was created on board 2 but that is only in the cine 9 not in the cine 8.
This board is to the edge of the unit other side than the smps.

He allready tried the focus board 35 posts ago. Youre repeating things that have been tried before.

Who plastered all that silicone around this blue tube??? Thats a mess. Hope whatever it is its non conductive, i had a big problem with a Sony due to semi-conductive silicones causing issues.

It seemed the least obvious was advised first like the splitter so I assumed that the most obvious was forgotten like the smps that I suggested before.

Well it doesnt pay to assume as that gets us nowhere, READ the whole thread. The splitter may be least obvious to you, but you diagnose by assumption and test patterns.
The SMPS was also mensioned 10 pages ago.

on the subject of changing the boards, boards 4-5 and 6 are all connected together with a myriad of cables (some hard wired, some on plugs all servicing the LIMO, those boards in turn are attached to the module on the controller board, and I am not sure how to go about separating them, the plan was to remove board 4 and put the corresponding BG 808 in it's place, then do likewise with board 5 and 6, however at this point I can only see that by removing all 3 boards could I then insert the BG 808 boards 4-5 and 6, and also remove the LIMO board from the controller panel, of course by doing that the Cine boards are then not tested up against the BG 808 boards individually.
Will update this after I have had a little think about it and a poke around.
One other thing you asked Casey and that was the state of the silicone stuff on the tubes, well, once again I do not think the machine has been "Tampered" with since it arrive here in Australia, I do honestly believe that
the machine is as bought, the chap I bought it from did not in my estimation, have either inclination nor the expertise to attack the the inside of this thing, so the silicone question will forever be unanswered.
But yes, it is a mess, I only saw it for the first time last night,as it was the first time I had removed that panel to expose the yokes.

You can pull the cables from the LIMO. Remove the cover over the control board. The LIMO is to the left on its own pull the cables with the power off.
You can run the projector now and test focus. If no improvements change control board and leave LIMO not connected.

Thank you very much for your thoughts, I am in the process of doing as you suggest.
Firstly I disconnected the LIMO and there was NO change in the focus, I have now begun to remove the controller board from the BG 808, but I seem to have run into trouble with the BLUE connector, I cannot see whether it just pulls out like the rest or not, if it is soldered into the board I am not very comfortable about de-soldering it
Could you please advise me on this

The LIMO is just a scaler, the cables connecting it will generally only go to their correct places, even though its all yellow wire, the plugs are all different sizes so they only fit one spot.
You dont need the LIMO, its useless for anything other than a Cine 9 or 909.
Swapping any of those RGB input related boards is very unlikely to have any effect of electronic focus!!
