Just finished watching Firefly series on BD. It took a couple of episodes to get into it then I really started to like its quirky look and story lines and then it ends mid air. WTF.

I'm assuming you've also seen the follow-on movie Serenity? My buddy got me hooked in firefly in 2006 and I was also bummed that it was cancelled. Seems to have a very solid cult following though.

I guess I don't get a geek card, because I really didn't enjoy Serenity that much. I'd heard so much about Firefly, how it was a must-watch, I thought I'd watch the movie and see if it tripped my trigger. I though it was just OK. But, the made-for-TV low-budget "quirky look and feel" just didn't do it for me. After watching serenity, I certainly didn't want to make me pick up and start watching the Fox-cancelled dead-end series. I love space sci-fi, but I guess the "cowboys in space" thing just isn't my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed the series. The movie wasn't as good in my opinion. It did tie up some of the story line which is probably why they decided to do it in the first place.
Pretty much anything Joss Whedon has done I've enjoyed. Yes, including buffy. lol

Have you seen his very low budget take on Much Ado About Nothing? He shot it at his house, so it's a modern setting but the dialogue is all original. Nathan Fillon's portrayal as the constable was especially entertaining.

SC, I agree on Serenity. I'd heard it stood on its own but I don't think it does. But if you watch the series first, you will fall in love with the characters, and since the idiots cancelled the series, Serenity is the only way to get one last hit before they disappear forever.

I loved FIREFLY. Never heard about it until I came here. Great characters.

I also dragged my heels but once i watched a couple episodes I really enjoyed the series, the idea of cowboys in space just did not work until I watched the show and like Deadwood the characters made it all come together. The movie didn't stand out for me and I count myself a fan of the show.

I'm also a Firefly fan thanks to suggestions on this forum. Not so much Serenity though. Also a big fan of Morena Baccarin, what a fine specimen.

The first episode left me flat with cowboys in space also just didn't make sense to me. You really have to get past that and enjoy the characters and each one is interesting. Eventually that they are in space as cowboys isn't that important.
