Unless Dolby has changed it, the frequency cutoff is 125. I doubt the Pioneer Atmos speakers could get down that low, since the driver is like 3" to 4".

Dolby needs to do a much better job on their website documenting this speaker specific information...nowhere does it describe such cutoffs or specific actual recommended frequency responses and what not for the surrounds or height channels or subs.

I did a search just now and found this massive ATMOS Authoring Document ... what a tough read but illuminating in spots.

http://www.dolby.com/uploadedFiles/Assets/US/Doc/Professional/Authoring_for_Dolby_Atmos_Cinema_Sound_Manual(1).pdf

...it does for example mention bass management about 1/3 of the way thru. Cutoffs of between 50 hz and 120 hz.

What I get out of this pdf is that the Atmos authoring is focused on 7.1 channels...looks like I will be going for a 7.1.4 system at least ! ...5.1.anything looks like a compromise !

I believe it has been talked about extensively over at AVS. DIYSG has some coax speakers that should work for Atmos.
