I have this love/hate relationship with my old 9500, and a couple of times a year, it needs re-seating of various chips on the control board. So last night, when the pic went away, I thought it was that time again ...

But no:-

This time, the proj shuts down HV when going to higher scan frequencies, at lower freg. it runs just fine. Even after re-seating, pulling HV and LV, pushing both boards between the tubes, doing som general exercise various connectors.

H. Fail LED lits up when going from 15 to 31kHz. Or possibly, the switch itself is causing the issue, not the different freq.

I have not been able to remove VIM, or the Moome board, since this is (space-wise) complicated in my setup, could they (or rather, the VIM), be the faulty one?

Or is it that control module that is giving med trouble?

Any suggestion on how to proceed is welcome!

Edit: checked which error LED was lit.

Hello

My instinct is you have issues with the horizontal deflection module, or the socketed chip on the deflection processor may need to be pulled out and cleaned. There is also a small possibility you have a failure of one of the three core fans which cool the HDM

Thanks!

I followed your instinct - pulled the hdm, cleaned the socketed chip on it, as well as the board connectors - and started it up. And it seams to work. Though it is a bit 'shaky' a few seconds after switching the frequencies, you know when the relays click.

But after a few seconds the shakiness disappears. It feels like the relay contacts themselves are bad/dirty - changing the frequencies rapidly a few times made the shakiness disappear altogether (for this time), I will do a longer test run tonight.

Has anyone experienced issues with these relays?

My 9500 only worked for about a week, since then I was never able to get it working with higher frequencies.. ..until today, when I had a last ounce of energy/TLC for this projector.

I pulled all boards as usual, but this time I spent more time with the relays, pulling the housing off the black relays on the HDM - and - I immediately spotted that one of the contacts where burned YEAH!

Sanding it, and finishing off with contact cleaner, back with all the boards into the projector again, and Voila!

Film time tonight! Very Happy

I will need to find a spare board, because sanding the contacts made the surface material to come off, so it will only be a matter of time before I run into trouble again...

Great!

I'll PM you in about a week or so, just to make sure that I don't need any other replacement parts.

I have been contemplating purchasing your 'Ultra upgrade', but I'm not sure I will find the time to do the full swap.
