You can probably find the names of everyone who attended by going back through the Meet thread. I do seem to remember posting lists of who was going to attend. I just finished a rum, and I'm too tired to look it up. Besides, I have to go down to the HT tonight and tear apart the right projector, so I can take a bunch of boards over to MP to get them modified tomorrow.

The old guy who came from Maryland was Mark Haflich. He brought a much younger guy, whose name I do not remember. The younger guy drove down from upstate New York. The younger guy was the guy who brought a couple of digital projectors. (Oh, the inhumanity.............)
Another guy came from Maryland. He was a college friend of Mark Seaton's. I don't remember his name either. |
Haflich isn't old. He is just worn down.
The other guy was Dillon or Seegs on AVS. He has owned and tested just about every digital pj out there. I think he is standing pat with the JVC he brought for awhile though.

I'm not real good with names, or remembering random facts. Now if you want to know Newton's 3 Laws of Motion, or Maxwell's 4 Laws of Electricity and Magnetism, or Einstein's 2 postulates of General Relativity, or Galambos' 2 postulates of Volitional Physics, or my 2 postulates of All Knowledge, I can tell you off the top of my head.

How about why poor Pluto was reduced to a lowly celestial object thereby destroying my innocent childhood view of the solar system? Next you will be telling me that Copernicus was wrong!

Pluto was a Planet when we were growing up. It has been reclassified as a Dwarf Planet (probably Dopey) by some, but not all of the astonomical community. The Principal Investigator of the New Horizons mission to Pluto (which, by the way, arrives at the Dwarf Planet this July), Alan Stern, a personal friend of mine, does not consider Pluto to be a Dwarf Planet. I suspect that no one working on the New Horizons mission to Pluto considers Pluto to be a Dopey Dwarf Planet.
The international astronomical organization that classifies celestial bodies reclassified Pluto because it was thought to not have enough characteristis in common with the other 8 Planets. Although, since that reclassification, Pluto has been accorded 4 more moons, as well as a ring system. Since it has an atmosphere, and is basically spherical, and orbits the Sun, it seems to have most of the characteristics of a Planet. Lets start a revolution to re-reclassify Pluto as a Planet!
Amazingly co-incidentally, the Dawn spacecraft just went into orbit around the second largest Dwarf Planet, Ceres (the largest "Asteroid" in the Main Asteroid Belt) just a couple of days ago. So, this Summer, we will have spacecraft encounters with the 2 largest Dwarf Planets we know of, (at least in the Inner Solar System) for the first time in history.
I've been suffering through mod withdrawal. I needed a fix. I was supposed to go to MP's house today, and pick up 3 modified neckboards. These would be the last 3 of the 6 neckboards that were actually in the projectors when you all arrived for the Meet last October. My visit got postphoned until tomorrow. All of MP's screen shots in the Screenshot Thread from the last week or so are using my modified neckbaords. Those from about a week ago are using the first 3 of my modified neckboards. The screenshots from this week are using the last 3 of my neckboards.
Who is this "Copernicus" fellow you speak of? Does he blend or stack?
Anyone up for a Blend Meet in May?
Dr. Little Dog
PS Your Spanksterness: AVS has brand new JVC RS4910 (X500R) projectors for $3800, right now. Lowest price they've ever sold them at.

Mister Website Owner/Smartass;
"m" does not equal "n". I actually had just returned from a 2 mile [blink]run[/blink], the first time I've been able to [blink]run[/blink] since early January. It's been historically cold here in January and February, and we just had 8" of snow (yes dear, this is what 8" looks like) last Thursday.

Ok, Ok, Pluto gets upgraded on this forum to full planetary status.
LOL, you have a sickness. You won't stop modding those CRTs till they put you in the ground.
A meet in May would be fun, but I am not sure if I could make it up there. I am going to Europe in early June, so that might limit my time. Curt mentioned making a trip in the fall, so that might work. Of course, if you organize then I will probably come.
That price on the 4910 is pretty good if you are in the market, but it is basically the same price they had after Cedia. It came with a spare bulb. Honestly, the deal that Clarence got a couple of weeks ago for the b-stock 56 from JVC was the good one. It only lacks the dynamic iris, but at $2200 it was a steal. Cedia is in six months or so and you can bet guys will be dumping their old pjs for the new laser/leds. That is when deals will be had.

Sounds like a plan.

I'd definitely be in for a fall meet. As I suspected, all the quotes that I put out there in January are now coming to fruition, so for the next couple of months I'm not going anywhere...

So, I did go to MP's house today, and he did the Focus/Geometry board mod described in the Focus/Geometry board mod thread on both my Focus/Geometry boards. Then he matched the 3 neckboards I brought over with the 3 neckboards he had most recently finished. I left my other 6 neckboards with Mike to modify. Next Wednesday I hope to pick those up. At that point, all of my neckboards will have been modified up to the MP/Kurt/Justin current standard.
I installed everything when I got home, turned on the projectors, and watched the second half of an ACC tournament basketball game. DirecTV is my worst HD source, and the Blend has never looked better. The image is so sharp that all of my setup/calibration errors stand out. So now I got to go back and renail the geometry, take out the banding, then do a greyscale calibration to match the right projector to the left projector, and do a convergence touchup, and the image ought to be stunning. Once I am done with this set of work, I ought to be ready for a Meet.
To nail the geometry, I bought a used Benq W1000+ single chip DLP projector for $250. I will use the digital to project a reference crosshatch pattern. I can then adjust the 2 Marquees to match the reference and nail the geometry perfectly. Who said digital projectors can't be useful?
Oh, by the way, I am running each Marquee at 1600 x 1200 @60 Hz. That resolution/refresh rate provides the best image.
When I go back to pick up the other 6 neckboards, Mike is going to do a new Mod on my Moome cards. This mod is what he was talking about most recently in the screenshot thread. It adds a new level of performance to the Moome HDMI input card.
