Anyone else here a WW2 buff? I heard that all the vehicles are authentic, even the Tiger Tank, one of 6 left in the world and the only running one.
The actinglooks really cheesy, and Brad says some pretty corny things (then again GI Joe might have really talked like that). None the less it should be a fun pop-corn movie. I'm guessing this should be out of the holidays.

OK, so I'm a sissy. I go to movies to have fun, to be entertained. Watching people act like vicious animals, killing and otherwise disfiguring people, seeing graphic depictions of murder, torture, and gore, etc -- that's not my idea of fun.

Sounds like the crap the rest of my family likes to watch on TV.

well, depends on how you look at it. The movie is going to be a Historical recreation of important events in the Nations history. If you read the news story you'll see the intent to show a side of the war few American's want to think about and Saving prvt. Ryan only hinted at. That is the fact that American soldiers act like almost any other soldiers in war, they become brutal animals because that's what takes to survive. Contrast this to the garbage we got in the 50's with John Wayne and "sands of Iwo jima" and you can see why so many American's thought, and some still think, that war is the best way to solve problems.
After Vietnam this country has sanitized war and all we get is sensationalized garbage from reporters in flack jackets "embedded" with units who allow them to film things they want the public to see. I generally avoid violent and disturbing films but truly accurate historical films are noteworthy for their own reasons. Showing people what it's really like is something we need to do more of.

I agree it will be more accurate. I agree that soldiers can become brutal animals in a survival situation. I agree that too many people have a glorified/sanitized view of war.
I already understand that. War already sickens me. I don't need or want to get that brutality hammered into my brain with a graphic movie. Maybe it's historically important but I don't want to watch it.

Watched a documentary last night michael Wittman, Germany's highest scoring tank ace. Awarded knights cross with oak leaves and fought on the Russian front where he destroyed over a hundred Russian tanks.
Killed in Normandy along with his whole crew by a Sherman, up-gunned Firefly version. This is the same model of tank Brad Pitt will be commanding . I mean it's history, it happened a long time ago by human standards, and the only time I can tolerate violence on my HT screen
