Hi everyone
It has been a while since I have been here. I seem to have problems with my PG. I do a complete set up on the projector and it throws a very nice image, at least for my level of expertise. After a few hours of viewing, everything goes out of whack. The OSD claims no registered entry after I spent countless hours for only 2 sources. I lose convergence and this is the third time it happens. I thought I would ask before throwing in the towel! Is there a battery or a board that I would have to change caps or something so the projector would keep its convergence longer than a few hours. Thank's
Don

I remember reading about this happening before, but i cant remember what the cause was. There is a super cap on the system board but that doesnt provide power for input memories.
Macgyver will probably know exactly what it is, but you could try pulling out the boards and re setting them in place after cleaning the terminals. You never know your luck.

Hi,
The super cap on the system board provides power to the clock/calendar chip only. There don't seem to be any battery-powered memory devices in the PG whatsoever.
The most probable location for storing configuration data would be IC8208 (32k x 8 EEPROM). There are two larger flash ROMs, but I think they are being used for the firmware.
Another storage area is IC8706 (32k x 8 EEPROM) on the point convergence board.
Both EEPROMs don't require a battery for retaining their content but there is a chance that they fail or that some other part connected to them is causing corrupted data. I would suggest removing the point convergence board (I've heard that the PG can work without it, correct?). If the problem stays, replacing the system board would be the most probable solution...
Regards,

The point board it not required, that is correct. But if it is causing issues, you lose only the point function, it didnt clear the entire memory in my case, ive had two fail like that. It still locked to memory locations but it was like as if all point adjustments had been zeroed.

Thank you gents. I redid the convergence again last night. I don't have the point convergence board on this projector. They were optional on the 6 and came standard on the 9 I believe. The projector does not have the correct date on it but, I am not sure I set it when I erased all the junk that was in the memories. There is 1 thing that comes to mind: after adjusting some parameters, I would push end and leave that screen. The pj would then automatically ask to store the settings. If I press no, would that erase only the settings that were made since the last adjustment or would it erase the whole thing? I remember doing this before it went out of convergence and losing its input signal memory.

Selecting no will not erase anything, it just wont overwrite the previously saved settings, so if you push Normal itll return to what it was saved at prior to changes.

System board. Your entries are not lost, the projector just cannot find them. If it continues to not lock on a new entry post back and I will give you something to try.

For now, all is good. I will post back after running a few hours or if I lose it again.

Your problem goes by the name of deadly scrambeled mess. In my experience it occurs mainly at high ambient temperatures. You can reduce the risk if you completely cut of the power to the projector instead of using the Standby Function or the Power button on the machine. Otherwise there is allways some heat generated on the Systemboard while the fans are not running and this increases risk of deadly scrambeled mess.
cheers
