update:
Everything SEEMS to be aligned but I noticed some green (for want of a better word) "flaring" on the right hand side.
Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks all.

Either the electronic focus is out, the astig is out, both are out, or the lens flapping is out...

Assuming you mean the green is flared as in abit out of focus.

The focus is fine.

I dont know how others find it, and i dont know how it differs on an AC Barco, but i found the lens flapping so be somewhat of a pain in the arse on the LC Barco.

The system on the Sony LC housings looks to be WAY better, although i didnt adjust it so i can only assume.

The adjustment of astigmatism in my opinion is the first thing to do in a crt projector.

So, I did a shakedown and I noticed one very important thing.
The offending haze seems to be a product of specifically higher density disks (like Blu-ray for example, or stuff that has been remastered).
Run a standard DVD and no problem.
Does anyone have any further thoughts.

P.S.:
Really glad I don't have to mess with the astigmatism.

Yep, post a picture of what you see, otherwise we're all just guessing.

If its different on different inputs im not suprised. Are you trying to do 1080p with that machine?

I'm trying to.
It does have a "piggyback" board and several possible HD settings.
I've seen several posts that say it will handle 1080, and, at least two or three that say Blu-Ray should work.
The picture on Blu-Ray is really clean, except for the green "flare, haze, whatever you want to call it.
It's on the right and side and is NOT continuous.

My guess is that this is a weak tube. If the set has over about 8000 hours on it, and the tubes are original, it's quite possible the emission is fading on the green tube. If the flare goes away at lower contast, then that's it.

I do have one set of brand new BG808s tubes in stock if you're interested.

While it might display 1920x1080p, it sure as sh** wont do it very well, especially with standard timings. My CineMAX shows blured edges withstandard timings too.

Try doing 1920x1080i and ill bet the issue is fixed.

Which brings me to my next question.
That means I need to use one of the settings reserved for user set-ups.
If that's correct how do I do it?

Erm... What?

Just set the source device output to 1080i and then set the alignment and convergence for the new signal when the projector syncs up to it.

If need be, over write the source input for 1080p, cause that machine is not up to the task of that.

Where is the "source drive output" screen and how do I get to it?
Also, how do I change to 1080i?
Please forgive my ignorance.

What source device are you using? A bluray player?

If it is, you need to change the setting in there to output 1080i.

If youre using a HD Fury3 you can limit the input to 1080i, but id change it at the source instead.

I dont think youre ignorant at all, there is no reason to ask forgiveness for not knowing!! Smile

I just think 1080p is too high a resolution for that projector.

Follow-up:
1080i setting eliminated green haze completely.
I have, however, noticed some vibration in the background.
Is there anyway to keep this machine at the HD setting but lose the distortion?
If not, why the heck give the capability for it but not make it usable?

It shouldnt have any vibration in the background, do you see that at the seating position or from right up close?

1920x1080i is still HD. To do 1920x1080p you need a better projector.

The other option is to try 1280x720p, compare it to 1920x1080i and see what you prefer. I didnt like it as much, but thats just me.

Its not the 1080 lines it has trouble with, its the 1920 width. If you feed it 1600x1200p it would probably look way sharper than 1920x1080p, and youll find that it was designed around 4:3 aspect ratio for higher resolutions, the 4:3 equal of 1920x1080 is 1920x1440, and youve got no chance of that.

One more thing you should try 1080i@60 perhaps you see flickering at 50 Hz?
