No problem on the images, large is good.

The 9PG XTRA will probably be a better machine in a few ways. I dont know what lenses are fitted to the Cine 8 but the XTRA will have either HD-144 or HD-145, theyre colour filtered, and the best lenses possible for AC machines. The lens flapping on the XTRA is also dead easy to set.

The Cine 8 comes in three flavours, thats not an onyx, which leaves two left, one using 180DVB22 tubes and the other P16s, which are better. The XTRA also uses P16s.

The built in remote on the back of the Barco is identical to the hand held unit, and has identical function.

Considering the condition and how close, the Cine 8 will still be a good choice.

I think too that it's really a good choice for that prize, only 100€ that in dollar are like 70 bucks for that quality it's a more than a great deal. I'm asking to the owner of the projector what type of tubes are mounted on it, then i'll let you know. Is there a big difference between the P16s and the 180DVB22 tubes? I mean why are the P16s better? Can they take more hours or are they more performing?

It's more like 100€ convert into ~ $135. But still it would be an excellent deal for a working Cine 8 with these tubes...

Theyre capable of being sharper than the 180DVB22 tubes, but if the set only has HD-8 lenses it probably wont matter anyway. Even so the difference wont be big, but HD-145 lenses with P16 tubes will be sharper than 180DVB22 with HD-8 for at least two reasons. I dont know what Barco fitted to those housings.

The length of their life will depend more so on how you set up the machine and what size screen you select, the more bright images it displays will wear the tubes faster.

I wouldnt worry about tube life, those tubes are exceptionally good based on those images. They will probably outlast the rest of the set if you treat them right.

Really, i thought that euros were more valuable than dollars Confused anyway the owner of the projector said that the tubes are P16s, so even better. I'm asking him why he's selling all of this at this super-low price because it's quite too good for being real, really.

So that makes it a Cine 8 Digital.

DONT ask why its a low price, its NOT a low price, and you dont want him to raise it!!!

Ok, i've asked him only why he is selling it, i haven't made any reference about the price. Anyway he never tested him, so he don't know if it works properly, maybe is for that that the price is so low respect to the price of other projectors, i'm still waiting his answer.

Its on the verge of overpriced then if untested, but its your call.

Never ever question a seller with the words "why is it so cheap"? They may not relise the value of it, so why point it out? If a seller relises an item is possibly able to obtain them more money and then removes it from sale, only to relist at a later date for a higher price, walk away, unless theyre prepared to take the original price, leave it to someone that is happy enough to pay the original price plus whatever they added. Someone recently did that here with a set of P19 tubes.

These sort of items are coming down in value to the point that you almost cant give them away, so i would never go and ask why theyre so cheap!!

Yep, effictevely i realize that it's not a smart question at all for every buy. Basically he asnwered that he knows the actually value of the projector but he want to sell it as sight unseen, for that the price is so "low". When i go see the projector i'll give you some updates, if it works etc. Thank you and have a good day!

Hi everyone! i've got some updates: the owner of the Cine 8 have sold the projector to another buyer even if i teorically was his first buyer . Anyway i'll go with the buying of the NEC, the owner of the NEC sent me the photos of the projector working, of the tubes and of the brand new remote. To me the tubes are basically perfect, i don't see any wear on the tubes. To me also the price, 590 euros, seems fair. Is it a good price?

I think the PG xtra is a really nice machine, but only if the price is right. 590€ is way too much for a PG xtra, on german e-bay 9" machines going for less...
The green tube is not even that perfect.

Ok, correcting some parameter of the image i realize it's not that perfect, there's actually some wear on the tubes. So what do you think, what price should be honest approximately? Like 350?

If I was to buy I'd try to keep the price under 300€.

The mask on green doesn't look too dark, but it is relatively small. With a propely maxed out raster you will not have an enjoyable picture. This would be good for a starter to play around with. Most likely you will soon be looking out for better tubes. Also you need to tackle the noise, which is work and also some money involved.

So if somebody would really love to have a CRT and doesn't mind driving and a little risk (yes, it can suddenly fail operating) then go for it. As you have only little offers you would have to live with the asking price or wait some more months.

CRT-projectors and home theatre are actually two different hobbies which supplement eachother. If I was to recommend budget kit with decent black level (the only CRT advantage left) I'd go for a used digital 500-900 EUR (eg JVC HD1 or 350), a set of budget active studiomonitors 150-200 a piece (I have Behringer and Samson), used midlevel 5 yr old AVR 200 EUR (eg Denon 2809), two DIY Subwoofers with PA poweramp, AT DIY screen.

cheers
hansilili

Thank you for the answer hansilili. So to you it will not last long and also the image will not be that good. Approximately, how much hours do you think it can operate excluding that it can have a failure in the electronics? Seeing the condition of the tubes and compairing the wear with the wear rating chart of the site, it can take from 6000 to 8000 hours if i saw it right. Really i don't know what to do, because i will use it frequently i guess so its tubes will last teorically from 2 to 3 years if not less than 2 years if i see that the image is bad to see. And the price to me, after your answers, seems a bit high. I'll try to low a bit the price than i'll let you know.

It might run for years and many hours, theyre typically pretty reliable.

Ok, i've talked with the owner of the projector, he wants 450€ with the shipping and a RGBHV-VGA Cable. The cable costs 30€ and the shipping 50€, so the projector costs 370€. I guess i can afford that price, so i guess i'll drive to get it.

Frank, you misunderstood my words. The picture quality will stay like it currently is for as many hours as you need. This however won't be more than 1-2000 because you will develop appetite for more. With this projector you will either use a small raster only (less light output) or live with a slightly brownish frame on the screen. This is not really severe so at first glance you will love the picture and even more the tweaking.

And with the sudden failure - these are 20 year old very complex technical machines. I havent seen anybody who freqeuntly watched movies and had the projector running without any problem for several years. Keep that in mind.

And now go and get your PGxtra, you'll love it.

BTW: I know a guy in a village next to mine trying to sell his 9PGxtra with new green tube, hushbox and silent cooling mod for 250, personal pickup only. The last 6PG with tube rating 9,9,9 I gave away for free.

Why €50 shipping for it when youre picking it up?

The cable would want to be f***en good for €30...
