So after 5 months of rather good PQ my VP50 died on me. I get an orangish light when the PS is plugged in, but nothing will turn on, no menus, etc.

I replaced the AC adapter this year, but I don't remember what it did when it was dead. I thought I got no indicator light at all, but I'm not sure any more.

So, is she dead? Is it the AC adapter again? I'm back to my 1st generation HDFury for a while.

Now I'm no longer getting a light on the front. When plugged into the VP50, the AC adapter makes a high pitched whine and the indicator light on this particular adapter suddenly dims. I don't remember if it did that before, but I don't believe so.

So I tested the AC adapter with a multimeter. The voltage was within the range I would expect, however if I try to measure the amps I get the same behavior as when plugged into the VP50. Assuming I understand the ammeter correctly, it also reads about 1amp, which is way low for what the VP50 needs.

Consequently, I am going try replacing the AC adapter. I'm also going to get it setup on a powerstrip so it the adapter isn't 'on' all the time.

Definitely try that first. Could be a bad adapter.

You may want to set your DMM to diode scale and test between the + and - of the socket on the VP.
