|
|
Hello,
This is my set-up: An iPad connectet to a Barco G 808 on Port 3 via HD Fury, HD Fury is powered correctly (5V, 0.5A): when I connect the iPad via s-video-port, Netflix videos are displayed really nice, all tubes are ok...However, when I connect the iPad through the HD-fury to port 3, only red tube is burning, film is playing for some seconds and gets distored then...
I am quite sure the cable for port3 is (VGA->Dsub9) is fine.
Any ideas what is going wrong here?
Any help will be highly appreciated!

Hey, there are different reasons, the green and blue don't work.
Source, cable, Port3 input on your projecotor.
I would solder
1) the green signal to the red pin on the Dsub9 and check if the red tube works (displays the signal from green).
2) If not, try red signal on the Dsub9 pin for green.
If 1 works, your source and cable seem to be ok.
If not, there is no signal, maybe broken wire or something in the source.
If 2 works, source and cable are ok, the projector is causing the problem.
Best idea would be if you first post the wiring diagram you used building the adapter.
Regards, Julian

I would suspect the projector

Is there a reason why are you not using Port 5 with RGBHV which is much better in quality.

+1 I also recommend the rgbhv connection

I use the port 3 because of this article of Curt:
http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco_Port3_Input.shtm
My 2 reasons from what I understood:
- I do not need an extra sync inverter since port 3 accepts both negative and positive sync
- 801, 801s, 808, 1208, 1208/2, 1209, 1209/2: Port 3 is often the preferred RGBHV input on these projectors.
Am I incorrect here?
I am quite sure the cable is correct...have rechecked it.
Question: when I use s-video on the BG 808, I get a nice picture with all 3 bulbs working. If the problem would be the projector, could it be port-related then?
Anyway, since port 3 does not work, it seems that I definitely need a sync inverter. Anyone has a good manual how to make such an inverter? Or has someone a cheap one for sale?
Thanks again!

Itll make little difference which port you use, both 3 and 5 are RGB HV. On my CineMAX there is no noticable difference between the two when using the MOOME V3 box.
You can try using port 5 and see if that works, but who knows.
What resolution are you trying to send to the projector? The timings from the iPad are likely more suited to digital displays, and that could be half the issue, unlikely as it is.

Thanks for your reply. In order to check if the problem is iPad related, I connected a standard DVD-player: I get the same result, only red tube is lighted.
Also, since all 3 tubes are ok if I connect through s-video, I am wondering if this issue is port-related since at least on the s-video port, everything works fine. Any ideas on this?
Thanks again!

Might be the cable, might be the Fury, might be a faulty board, might be something else.
Try using the 15 pin to 5 BNC cable in port 5 and see what happens, or test continuity on the 15 pin to 9 pin cable.

Hello CasetheCorvetteman,
Guess what? I connected a normal DVD-player with HDMI-output via the powered HD Fury to port 5 and it plays the DVD normally without any issues while I expected there a sync problem!!! How come?
Now if I change the DVD-player for the iPad, and play a Netflix-video, it says: "Source not available..."
- Why isn't there a sync problem with the DVD-player?
- What could the "source not available message mean?
Thanks for any help!
Regards,

The BG808s gives a better image on port 5, but the BG808 gives the best image on port 3 (sharper).
I did some tests a long time ago and a Barco expert in Paris also confirmed that.

No idea on the sync, itll depend what the fury is set to output i guess.
The source not available message is something youll get when the signal doesnt meet the specifications, and id say its to do with the timings.

Problem is, it's not auto sensing, so with some sources, you'd need to flip the switch on the side of the GammaX, which would be a PITA.

Or you build a sync inverter yourself.
http://www.twobits.com/RGB/sync.html
Oh, isaw that this "how to build a snc inverter" thread is also written by you.
Adviced you twice to do the same
What type of output connector does the ipad have?
So, your DVD-Player (that surely is a BluRay-Player) does work.
I recommend you using a normal DVD-Player with Scart output.
Connect it directly (not via the fury!) to port3 of the projector.
Here is the scart layout. http://www.leadsdirect.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/scartdiag.gif
and this is port 3. http://www.curtpalme.com/images/barcoport3.jpg
If this works normally, you can exclude the projector from causing problems and other people
can explain you how to check your ipad and your fury.
I own no fury or ipad, so this is not my part to help with.

Hello Curt,
Thanks for the explaination, I'll go for that. However, in case of the iPad, if the sync is wrong, shouldn't I still get a (distorted) image instead of "Source not available"...
And what is your opinion for the BG 808: which port is better? Or is it just a matter of trying and compare results?
And any ideas on why only the RED bulb is burning on port 3?
Thanks again!

Thanks for your advice...
This is the output connector for the iPad I use:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD098ZM/A/apple-digital-av-adapter
The DVD-Player is a normal DVD-player (no Bluray) with HDMI output which I connect via HD Fury to port 5...
I'll look into the DIY inverter...
Thanks!
