Hi guys, I have been busy watching movies lots and lots of movies and was happily doing this until my 4600 suddenly gave problems.

I put the PJ on and the picture has been totally compressed into about 40% of its height, I now have superwidescreen and a picture that I cannot watch. It looks about just over 60 cm in total height from top to bottom. The width, thankfully, is the same.

Any advice would be appreciated.

First, don't use the machine this way, you risk a deflection line burn in your tubes.
You have a vertical deflection (board) problem.

THANKS!

I was not intending to use it but I thought I better take a picture as soon as I could at least.

Agreed.....willing to bet that board made a slight buzzing or high pitched noise.

It used to buzz a while ago then it went away then this happened. Hopefully no damage has been done.

Nah, buzzing on many V boards is normal, including the Marquee and Ampros..

Mine usually got slightly worse the higher the resolution/frequency but it wasn't really audible.

Was the card number the correct one I gave you for the V deflection board Curt?

Sorry Curt....but I have to disagree with you on this one. If noises are created by the picture going out of its normal operating range, you are on borrowed time.

Well I guess we'll disagree. Smile

If you put your ear up to any Marquee V board, you can hear the 60Hz V buzz. Worse on some sets I think, but they all have it. Not sure on the Ampros, but I've definitely heard it on some.

Incova, it looks right, haven't had a second to check yet, I'm a bit backed up..

HMM....have not heard it on a Marquee or Ampro. But on a PG Xtra, I heard one when I revved it out of spec. Got scared and brought it back after it would high pitch to low pitch buzz and back up to high and would go back and forth on that without even adjusting anything. I thought that was too much stress for it and did not want to cause any damage.

Digital, that's the key or pin setting, caused by a bad/out of spec cap. Well documented, but in that case too, I've heard the odd buzzing, haven't changed the cap (early on when I got into CRTs), but never had a set go down due to the cap. It's only when people started complaining on avs about the buzz did the fix come out.

Hahahahaha!!! Laughing Laughing

F*** two ducks, i laughed so much i almost spilled my drink then.

I serviced a Toshiba 25kW variable speed drive at work the other day, it buzzes abit too... Its been on borrowed time since it was installed in 1999 i guess... I better keep an eye on it Wink Its the nature of electronics and circuits that have the ability to create wave forms from DC, get enough ripple current in there and its going to buzz.

Going outside of range with an NEC will either cause no image or the set will shut off with an error code.

Im not sure what to make of that answer, but its not about to cause the eventual self destruction youre suggesting is just around the corner.

Hi guys,

Got the board from Curt, thanks for all the advice, the pj is now perfect. I had quite a lot of drift for a while just thought the pj was getting old. However, the image is now totally stable, for anyone's else's future information my board caused specific problems like convergence drift.

Thanks you all for helping save my pj and allowing me to enjoy it longer, thanks for the extra board Curt much appreciated.
