|

I have used this forum in the past and the folks here were very helpful. I have an issue that I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips to check out to try and fix it.
I have a Sony G70 that was working great when I had to move back in the beginning of 2011. I unhooked everything and it has stayed in place ever since without being turned on or being used at all. I didn't want anyone to mess with it while I was away in NC. I have just moved back and hooked everything up and now the Input A is not working correctly. The S-video input still works as it should but the RGB input will not act right. The screen is jumpy, at times there will be several squares showing the same screen, if that makes sense. I was wondering if there is any way to reset the system? I have downloaded all the manuals from this site and I am going to start reading those but didn't know if anyone had a quicker answer.
Many Thanks

Given your comments about the S-video input working fine and about the "...several squares showing the same screen", I'm more suspicious of the source than I am the G70. What's the source? How is it cabled?
Don't do a full reset on a G70; it can cause more problems than it fixes.

I have used a Sony PS3 and then a DVD player that has the RGB outputs on it. Previously I used my Onkyo receiver to control all the input sources. I went straight from the PS3 to the projector and bypassed the receiver and it is still doing the same thing.

Sounds like sync to me. The PS3 and DVD player output a format called 'HD component', sometimes labeled YPbPr. 'RGB' is a very different format/color space.
First, verify the component cables are connected: Red, green, blue, in order, from top to bottom (assuming floor-mount).
Next, go into the user menu, and make sure this is selected:
INPUT SETTING > SYNC SEL > AUTO
If that doesn't work, make sure this is set:
INPUT SETTING > V SHIFT > WIDE
If that's all already set that way, then try this:
INPUT SETTING > SYNC OSC > 1 IF 2, 2 IF 1

Many, many thanks!!
When I went to Input Settings>Sync Sel>Ext [HV] and that fixed it, Auto wasn't a choice. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I have no idea how that would have changed but it's fixed now. I need to go in and adjust the actual picture now but it seems to be good to go.

Ok, I am back in Atlanta again with the projector and I have finally found the remote. The problem now is that the remote batteries are dead. I switched them out with new ones but it is no longer synced up with the projector. Any ideas?
And then after it is synced up...I can't remember the "code" to get into service mode. It was something like up>down>up>down then enter twice but it has been 4+ years since my projector has needed adjustment. 3 of those it wasn't even running so I am not sure how it got out of whack but I need to tune it up again.
Many thanks for any assistance.

Most of what you're looking for is in the Install Manual.
Service Man mode is:
ENTER ENTER UP DOWN ENTER
On the remote issue… Check the back of the projector. There are two little dials called "INDEX". I don't remember what they're supposed to be set to… 1 or 01, maybe. I think 0 made the projector inop, 1 was for the IR, and anything else killed IR control. Or something like that.
Try using the remote in front, and behind the projector. If one works and the other doesn't, then check this setting:
MENU > SET SETTING > SIRCS > FRONT & REAR
If that doesn't fix it, check to make sure the remote is actually working when you push the buttons. You can probably use a digital camera or cell phone camera to see if it's emitting IR when you push the buttons.
Cheers,
