|
|
I currently have a Sony 1272 ceiling mounted & a 4:3 100" Draper Cinaperm screen. If I remember right it's 60x80"
Been looking at a new G70 on Ebay. My question is, will the G70 work ok mounted where I presently have the 1272 mounted? Be great if I didn't have to drill more holes in my ceiling )
And would my present ceiling mount also fit a G70?
Thank You

The g70 manuals are here:

Are you looking at that new G70 by FHVideo? Decent dealers, but $6K for a 12 year old projector is far too pricey. To self promote, a $3500 G90 from me with a new green tube is a far better deal, and I think most here would agree.

I ruled out a G90 after hearing about the chip problem and possible costly upkeep with parts etc..
Yes it's the FH co. asking $4900 and open to offers. IF I get serious I was thinking of a lot lower offer.

Well, I really don't think they'll entertain what you probably hope they will.
Yes, the G90 has that chip issue, but with the sheer volume of G90s I'm buying now, that chip isn't an issue at this point. out of the 50 or so g90s I've sold so far, I have yet to have one fail, and I've always got spare parts here. The G90 is pretty darn reliable otherwise.
The tubes are now discontinued for the G70, so really, to me that's more concerning than any issue with the G90.
Otherwise, consider a 9500 Ultra with new tubes. Unless you can get that g70 for $1K or thereabouts, I don't think it's really a good deal at this point. Also, if you read the fine print from FH video, they say that you get a 1 year warranty based on the available parts that they have. they don't specify what they have in stock.
Yes, I'm definitely biased, I'll let others chime in.

As long as the notorious IC421 on the YA board of the G90 has a serial # from the good batch, it will never go bad. Simple, don't buy a G90 unless you know it has one of the good ones in it. Cost to replace the YA board if id does have a bad chip with a known good one for me was about 1300 bucks. Still WAY less than that 6k you were considering dropping on a G70!

That is most likely true Matt, but not all of the 'bad' series of Ya board chips go bad either. I've seen the 'bad' series run 8000 hours + with no issues. The theory a few years ago was that they died around the 1000-1500 hour mark, but that's not a valid theory any more.

FYI--I had no plans to spend 6 grand on a G 70. Was looking, that's all. Curt has one for $700 on Ebay!
I did make them a offer on their $4950 G 70 thou--- They're probably still chucking about it

IIRC the bad chip was the most prevalent one, so saying don't buy one with the bad chip limits your options.

I would take Curts offer on a 9500 or g90 if I were you. Brand new does not matter. Support from Curt does. You will get a better image, flaw'd parts swapped out or upgraded, and longer life on the tubes. New is not always better.
