|
|
Having done a deal for a set of low hour (<1000hrs) P19LUG with c-elements, I'm on a hunt to gather top tips when swapping them out.
I've downloaded the Barco document for the 808s from here and if it had said 1209s at the top, I wouldn't have known the difference.... Are there any practical differences?
So, in short, I'd really appreciate some practical tips, generic or Barco specific please. Especially any tales of woe and how to avoid them.... the hard learnt lessons...
The bit that gives me most apprehension is adjusting the 4 pole/2 pole magnet rings with the machine live. Again, the instructions are very matter of fact and reality very rarely is. Anything that gives a practical slant on the instructions will be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Paul

Biggest thing is make sure when you install the tubes that the key on the tube will fit the video amp socket. Barco had at least three configurations on orienting the tube (two for the 808/1209, one for the 919 tubes that are rotated 90 degrees..

Ooh errr.... I have P19LUG's at the moment.... is a LUG not a LUG not a LUG then??
Is it a new socket for the card or a complete new video amp required?
Cheers,
Paul

No, in that case you're fine. I thought you were converting a BG808s to a 1209s...

Ah, I was just saying above that the only document I could find for a Barco tube change was for the 808s and that it looked identical to the 1209s.
Sorry for the confusion. As usual, I know what I mean!!

One thing I was wondering about (I am going to do the same) is the positions A and B in the manual where you have to mark the position of the focus coil and cpc magnets. It seems like they are all shifted close to each other on Barco. With my Marquee I had a lot of space there. So my question is if Barco is that simple or are my coils and magnets bad aligned on the tubes that I have now?

Must be a difference in focus coil construction, i have had
- a 808
- a cine 8
- a 1208s/e
All original parts from Barco and all had ideal focus near the CPC magnets. On marquee's it seems to be almost the inverse!

I think overall focusing based on where the yokes are depends on:
-HV level
-tube structure
-yoke structure
I know with the BArcos, changing the EHT board or quad or splitter can shift the HV by a bit, and that affects global focusing. The only concern would be if the focus yoke is all the way forward or back, and you can't reach ideal focusing with the electronic focus setting.
The overall position of the yokes and astig magnet isn't that important.

From the Barco document....
| Quote: | move the focus unit slowly
for- or backwards for max
focusing in the middle of the
screen - |
I take it this means on the face of the CRT. Is this best done looking through the lens, or take it off?
Is the point of best focus sharply defined or is there a broad range of movement where the focus doesn't appear to change much?
