I sold this set about a year to 18 months ago, and the customer is complaining about a reddish line at the top of the pix, clearly shown below. Thing is, the all white field doesn't show it.
Signal path is BluRay player to Lumagen to Moome card in projector.
I also see some potential hazing of the glycol in the green tube according to the b/w image below, but that could be his camera. Am working with him to narrow that down.\
Now, here's the weird part that's throwing me off:
When he shrinks the image height, the reddish band moves with the image! that rules out tube issues (more or less, at least for the reddish band), and when he switches to cable, the problem remains. He also bypassed the Lumagen, and the problem is still there.
That pretty much leaves the HDMI cable (doubt it!), the RGB input board or the Moome card.
Anyone ever seen this?

That bottom picture has all kinds of crap in it. A face, some sgt. stripes, other anomalies. Whats up with that?

I see that. Having the customer check for anomalies, he's going to fire up one tube at a time. there are some floaties in the red tube glycol, but that doesn't explain any of what we're seeing on the screen.
Oh, the image is a freeze frame of a DVD, I'd expect a dissolve to explain the face.

The all white is fine? Is it internal pattern?

Hi,
If he has the CMM board mounted, he could try to remove it. Otherwise I'd try a different VIM...

Maybe he can narow it down if looking on a solid 0-5% IRE from the lumagen, see if the tubeface is lid even. or how the noise on each tube look like. looking into the lenses.

Curt I do not think this is a projector problem. I had a Sony DVD 10 years back do similar stuff like this and is was the main software chip in the player that was going bad. Scenes that were on other layer of the disk were being read as well as the layer it was supposed to be reading. Color was all off everywhere and difficult for the video processor to produce a normal image. Same thing probably happening here. Now it wasn't all of the time but when it got hot after running a while but got worse as it deteriorated and eventually would be every time the machine was started. Has he tried a different blu ray source?

The problem with that is that his cable box source is showing the same thing. I'm now leaning towards the Moome card, but have never seen one do this before.

Hi Curt
It may not seem like what I experienced but I thought I would give my 1 cent worth. I'm assuming floor mount , which would kind of corroborate what I had with my pj.
Long shot but is the red tube glycol low? If it is then then top edge of the glycol will be shown on screen as a line (reflection). Mine was on the bottom edge of screen (ceiling mounted), hopefully not the case but there you go.
Another instance I had was on a 8500 cracked tube face (red), which showed up as a smudge of red on the screen in the vertical direction. It was a small crack but got progressively worse and then it was more noticeable on screen hopefully less of the case than the first.
So no matter what the source or cable, external or internal , the tube is still being lit.
Hope this helps you somewhat
Mark G

The customer solved it, it was the VIM. Sadly, he didn't mention, nor did I remember that he had boards from his old 8500 that the 9500 Ultra replaced. He was talking to Mike and myself, and Mike suggested swapping the VIM, and all his issues went away.
BTW Mark, good suggestion, but if the glycol were low, the tinting would also be seen in the all white test pattern. that didn't show it, which led me to believe it was the VIM or the Moome card.

Glad I was wrong there. A board is an easier fix than a tube
