Hi everyone;

Just register to the forum as I'm having some troubles trying to set up my HDfury2.

I've plugged it through the VGA->5BNC cable , set it to YUV and plugged the HDMI to a sony bdp5100.
I've set the resolution to 1080i.

But then, the image on my Barcovision 701s is not really stable.
There's like black shadow bands goings through the screen from time to time, like suddenly those zones turns more contrasted… I don't really know how to describe it…

And second problem, there's like a diagonal banding, like lines going from top left corner to bottom right corner…It's really uncomfortable and makes the viewing not pleasant, like there's a lot of noise on the picture…And it's worst and more sightable in dark images/scenes…

I'm really disappointed as before i used my Phillips 963sa DVD player with a 1080i firmware for years and it was working perfectly , so the problem is not from the barco.

May someone help me set it all up, There's now one week I'm working on that and start to think of a digital projector now as I'm very deceived ..

ps: Setting my BR output to RVB , the Barco doesn't accept the RVB from the HDfury2 at any resolution…How is that possible?(Yes the 2 sync are on a T and connected to the "S" input of the Barco).

Thanks everyone for your help that'll be very appreciated.
Wink

To get RGB to work you will need negative sync. Your problem is likely the bluray player. Allot of the new ones put out video timing that's too narrow for CRT. You may need to try RGB by adding either a GammaX to get the negative sync or something like an Extron 202 or similar.

Your other option is to pick up a HD scaler to see if you can fix this. Do you have any other source you can test with? Is it still working with your Phillips player?

Hi and thanks for the quick answer AnalogRocks Smile

In fact all i got here as possible other source is a tvbox.. I'll try that tomorrow.

My Phillips DVD player had the component output dying , that's why I start thinking to find something else… Then i sow that there's nothing really affordable and with such comparable quality on the market nowadays and thought seriously about throwing the barco and all that out to buy a cheap second hand digital like a JVC HD1 … Friends told me to try BR+HDfury so i'll save money and get a nice picture… but in fact that's not that easy Sad
If i buy a GammaX it'll be more spent but will it worth it then knowing I don't have a beast like a Cine8 ou 9" projector?
Anyway, I'll try tomorrow with the TV box . I found a GammaX on ebay (not easy to find in France…so are HDFury..) .
But if the problem is the BR player as you suspect, will the GammaX solve it (i mean, not only the Sync but also the Video timing (not sure what it is Surprised )? in 480/576p the image is nice (though the downscale is not really sweet with colors and all that),i even see the lines i haven't seen for years even with the DVD player in 576p lol . The picture shadows and diagonal lines appears in 1080i only.

For scalers and all that, I've got nothing under hands over here and would not buy just to test..

PS: in fact I've another problem, it's that the Barco doesn't take DVD's upscaled to 1080i at all ,nore play european BR as @50Hz for 1080i, the bandwidth is too low for it to sync well…Wich is another problem I'll have to deal with… If anyone here has an idea of what to do…(In fact i thought about bying an emotive EMC-1 preamp and use it to out everything in 1080i/60 ..I'm waiting for answers to know if it does it,but then if it does, that's another spent… :/ )

Anyway, thanks for your answers, if you think about others info considering all i've just answered, I'll welcome them.
And I'll try the TVBox tomorrow and let you know too.

Hi back Smile

So I just tested with the TVbox.
The image quality is not perfect as our DSL speed doesn't allow HDtv, anyway with the box set to 1080i/60Hz the image is stable and quite fine. No color problem beside maybe some very light shadow banding on very contrasted images.
So that mean it's fine from the HDfury if i've understand everything.
I even had a better kind of unstable RGB input (due to the sync prob i guess)
Now, what does that says about my problem?
What should i do next to finally be able to look at BR?Does that mean my BR player is not good?(that'll be bad bad news as it's a christmas present).

Thanks.

I'd think it IS the Bluray player. You may need an older one like the SONY BDP-S550 or similar. OR a an HD Scaler to fix the video signal
OR and Extron box to try RGBHV input.

thanks Analogrocks;

I'm really frustrated with the Sony being a bad one Sad I cared to chose one affordable that was said to be good before asking for it…
I hope my friends will still be able to return it Sad if not I'll have to deal with it…
I don't know anyone having a BR player neither…so I can't even try an older one..
Do you think if i use an Emotiva between the BR player and the projector it could solve the problem?
In fact I might have to change my preamp and found that the emotive UMC1 is musically good ('I'm from a rotel RSP1066) and that it can convert frequency and so output all my sources ,including my Pal DVDs and BR in 1080i/60Hz so that the Barco will take it.
Do you think It'll be a good option?
What about the gammaX then?

Thanks.

I'm following this thread with interest, as I've got a barco 1200 owner with similar issues, and have linked him to this thread. Output of his Fury looks fine on computer monitors, and I sent him the video input boards that I tested before I shipped, and he has the same issue.

Thanks Curt,
what kind of BR player does your customer has?
what would be the next step? what should I try?
Where, according to you, could be the problem from? Noone ever had that kind of problem on french forums …I'm quite lost with all that. :/

Well same here, I haven't had that issue before either. I don' t know what BR player he has, I haven't heard back from him since I linked him to this thread. I was hoping he'd chime in as well.

You could certainly try the different preamp instead of a separate Scaler. That may work too.

...and sorry I forgot to add:

OR try GammaX with side switch set to "INV" and have the power supply plugged in too.
