The video syncs up just fine but the pj menus are scrambled. Any ideas? I'll likely continue using 1080i but I'm curious as to why the picture would sync and not the menus.

It is most likely the system board, there is no ultimate solution for this problem, you may get stable picture and menu at that resolution, but then you may loose osd on other resolutions. I suggest to leave it alone, 1080P has too much bandwidth for a plain PG anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll leave it alone and continue to enjoy the 1080i.

Since you seem to have the ability you should recap that system board. There are caps on there that will cause you to loose the menu all together. And if the traces get burned from the electrolyte it will be harder to repair. And make sure you rip the caps off. Don't try to unsolder.

Hey Mac! Thanks for the information. Maybe I should pull the system board and take a look to make sure I didn't make any mistakes as I have recapped projector. After swapping over 300 caps one is bound to make a mistake or two. I had an issue with the blue drive I finally got around to fixing and it turned out I was missing (mistake #1) a cap on an op-amp feedback loop causing the amp to oscillate and pulse the tube output once exceeding threshold.

Oh, I didn't know you capped it already. Then if it is only on 1080p and you don't use that resolution I would not worry about it. If it starts loosing the menu at lower resolutions it may still be possible to cure it but I would not do anything until that time.
