My screen is bigger : 2.7m wide (around 121" in diagonal 16/9).
I watch movies without any light source. I thought, according to what I read, that the 1292 could be used in these conditions and give good results...

My boss uses a NEC 9PG on a 2-2,5m wide screen, and it looks ok, so I'm sure the 1292 will light up too.

In that case, the Marquee 8500 would not have suited you, so don;t feel bad about not getting it. You would have to stress the tubes too much to get enough light for such a big screen. It would have worked, but you would have worn the tubes out sooner than expected. Also, stock Marquees tend to bloom sooner than other projectors. I think my 8500 with stock neck boards would bloom at a contrast setting if around 65-70. With the MP modded neck boards I can go up to about 85 on contrast to get blooming. Still, the tubes would get worn out much sooner at such settings. Sony users can give you their experience with the light output of the 1292. I have never seen one in action.

Thanks for all your messages.
I've never seen a Marquee or a 1292 in action... The the peak lumens (700+ in the Best/Worst table) of the Sony 1292 is really low... I wonder what it really means in practice...

The 1292 brochure/spec sheet states 225 ANSI lumen, that is the same as for the M8500: 225ANSI <-> 1000peak, but note the 8500 have no color filtering at all, the 9500 is advertised with 240 lumen, with filter only on green, 260 lumen without color filter. So strictly from the specs it is slightly brighter than a conventional 8" set.

Hi qjaky,
I read these specs. I hope you're right because I know the results of the two 8" tubes I own (BG808 & 6PG+) and the difference of image quality between an image size of 90" and one of 100" (wide) is really important.
I'm going to get back the projector on Saturday (a journey of 600 miles). I'll make some projection tests in an other one room before installing it and making the definitive hushbox.

Hi kironk!
Thanks for your message.
3,14x1,52? Strange screen format, isn't it?
I hope I'll like the result too!

It is larger than I can do.
And the height is the maximum between the ceiling and my furniture.
Homemade screen

Ok for the screen.
J'aime pas mal d'autres gros trucs mais effectivement celui-là non plus je ne l'aime pas.
Quelques Canadiens et Québecois comprendront peut-être
Je t'ai envoyé un PM.

Three 8" or 9" tubes vs 1... Is Nash so greedy?
