Germany is Europe's CRT paradise, every now and then poping up a great 9" CRT deal on the german ebay. If I am correct stridsvognen bought his two marquee ultra on the german e-bay, and I think he didn't pay much more than 500€ for the 9553..
But again the Marquee really have better bandwidth than the PG+ or the 808, but that little more bandwidth is not that apparent if you actually watch movies, the Marquee also has its weak points compared to the Barco and the Nec. I'd try that projector first whichever has the least tube wear...

Hi stridsvognen,
That's why I wanted to buy this cheap Marquee 8500 and why I was so disappointed...
It's very difficult to find a good CRT projector at a good price in France (as everywhere except perhaps in USA an Canada! ). And a BG808 is better than nothing... |
I know, having the same issues in Belgium A 9" EM machine almost never shows up and if it does it has burned tubes. |
Or costs 4000-5000€ with 8000h+ tubes... |
I payed 500€ for a 2004 9553LC ultra with HD10E lenses and 500 hours on the machine, and i seen quite some 9500LC ULTRA go around 200-550€ on ebay in germany, sometimes there are none for some time, and other times there are lots.
Its all about patience, and take a chance to go get one, with the risk its a messed up load of crap.
Normaly it looks like we are only 2 or 3 persons, hardcore Marquee boys who ever bids more than 200€.
I dont bid on anything in the south part of Germany, its to far to go, but ill say max 500-600km down from the Danish border is my pain limit, and it has to be a nice machine.

Too bad ya all are so far away and shipping $$$ would make it prohibitive because I'm selling my 8500. It's not as heavily modded as it could be but that's not a bad thing! After all, who would want one that's *cough cough* 'all done'? (like they're ever ALL done!)
I love my 8500 because it's my first but I simply don't have the time any more and will be moving soon.
Curt you ever look into what it would cost to fill a seavan with pj's and get em' to central Europe?

Guys,
Thanks for all your posts.
I know for Germany and I frequently take a look on Ebay.de. But Sony projectors (1292, G70, G90) are very expensive and I've never had enough chance to find a 9" Marquee or Nec at a decent price (regarding its shape).
As qjaky said, I'll try the BG808 and the 6PG+ and wait for a good deal on a top 8" or on a 9" machine.
@JustGreg : you're right, it's a pity because of the shipping costs!

Hi everyone,
I was so much disappointed to have miss the Marquee that I've contacted the guy who sold me the BG808, 3 years ago, to ask him if he had no other projectors to sell (when I bought him the 808, he had 3 other projectors to be sold).
Good news, he has decided to sell two of his three actual machines (and to conserve one) because he has changed his installation. I would like to know your opinion about the machines knowing that I'm a newbie and that I wish to install the machine on the ground.
The three projectors:
- 1292 with 4000h chassis and tubes (wear rating 8), color filtred, a hushbox soundproofed for 650$.
- G70 in a perfect shape, 3000h chassis and tubes (wear rating 7-8) for 600$
- 1209s with 6000h chassis and tubes (red and blue wear rating 7, green 6) ; he doesn't know at which price to sell this machine. I'm waiting...
I know that the 1209s is much better than the two others but is G70 really better than the 1292? I know the technical differences between the two projectors, but in the practice?
Thanks for your advices.
Bye.

1292 with the anti-streaking mod would be good but if you ever need to re-tube your stuck. Those tubes are rare. But it comes with a hush-box and color filtering.
G70 is a very nice machine. Many here run them at 1080p ( or better, 1920 x 817 for 2:35 movies )
1209s is a great machine but with toasted tubes it's not worth very much. However you may be able to find better tubes down the road.

Hi AnalogRocks,
Thanks!
I'm quite sure he'll conserve the Barco. The tubes are not really toasted but not clean as those of the two Sony.
I think the G70 is a good compromise (for a beginner) but the 1292 has 9'' tubes....

Hmmm really? I thought 1292's tubes were made of unobtainium.

For the price I'd also go with the 1292, but most likely that is the oldest machine from the three...

Hi qjaky,
Tanks for your message.
What are your reasons to choose the 1292?

It has colored C-elements, a red c-element usualy goes around $200 here alone in the buy and sell section, the 1209 don't have this from stock; it has HD10E lenses which are not as sharp as the lenses in the G90, but probably still better than the HD10GT17 which is probably the lens on the 1209. From your description it has the lowest usage, and as the 1292 isn't very bright the phosphors are not burning that fast either.
While the 1292 has the streaking problem, it can be eliminated, it is probably the loudest CRT ever made, but for example the neck board uses the same 150MHz chips what the G90 uses, the machine's overall bandwidth is not that great as it was originally intended. But according to an italian 1292 owner (don't remember his nickname...) says the internal moome card jumps most of the low bandwidth path of the signal.

Good reasons.
You didn't mention the G70... Is it because you consider this machine less qualitative than the 1292?

I too am looking for a cheap 1292 just to see how welt he tubes will work in them
Ebay has the kit for the anti streaking mod.

Thank you very much for this further information.
As you, qjaky prefers the 1292.

G70 is a 8" machine, though it is newer than the 1292, but I would be very surprised if the G70 would produce sharper 1080P picture than the 1292, of course the G70 better than the 6PG+ and the BG808, but for only 50$ extra the 1292 is a better deal IMHO.

Hi everyone,
I don't know if this information is important but I'm anxious to specify that my screen begins at 90cm (circa 35") of the ground and makes 107". I can't put the projector in the ceiling and I'm obliged to heightened it about 30-40cm (circa 15") because I can't obviously tilt him... Is one of the two Sony more appropriate for my constraints?
Thanks for all your advices.
