or Desecration of Tolkien, take your pick. Spoiler alert, but trust me, there's nothing here to spoil.
I have been pretty tolerant with the "Jakson'izing" of Tolkien. It started with Elves at helms deep, continued with the kidnapping of the hobbits by Faramir, and my patience finally wore thin last night. I won't bother going to the theater for the last hobbit. This guy has a problem, and his ego has finally ruined some of the most looked forward to book adaptations in movie history.
I can understand they needed to stretch this to make it 3 movies and incorporated things that were merely hinted at in the hobbit or were pulled from the appendix of Lord of the Rings, this could have been OK. None the less, the movies is 2 hours and 40 minutes long and there is at LEAST 40 minutes of pure crap here. A 2 hour movie with some quiet scenes would have been 100% better than the full bore schizophrenic Jackson movie pacing. The movies suffers from almost all of these
Early symptoms may include:
Irritable or tense feeling
Trouble concentrating
As the illness continues, the person may have problems with thinking, emotions, and behavior, including:
Bizarre behaviors
Hearing or seeing things that are not there (hallucinations)
Isolation
Reduced emotion
Problems paying attention
Strongly held beliefs that are not real (delusions)
Thoughts that "jump" between different topics (“loose associations)
Jackson's neurotic need to pump the audience full of non-stop, senseless action/battle sequences just leaves you brain dead. By the time they get to Smaug, which was beautifully rendered and SHOULD have been the high point in the movie, your just tired of it and at this point I didn't even care what happened next. There is just zero quiet time in this movie, zero character development, and no pacing at all. It's like an audio track that is always crushing your ear-drums , pretty soon the only thing your interested in is a set of ear-plugs.
Between the ridiculous character Tauriel, another phony love interest " she elf" stuperhero, which heals a dwarf with kings foil (sound familiar?), the retarded and unnecessary barrel escape fight scene, Commando Orcs invading lake-town, Gandalf taking on Suaron by himself for god knows what reason, it just goes on and on. My disgust is now complete
I can only imagine what a beautiful movie Deltorro might have made if it Jackson's control issues hadn't gotten in the way.

I missed this in theaters and finally saw this over the weekend on BD. I found it far superior to Unexpected Journey but still not in the same league as LOTR. I have not read the book but I have spoken with people who have and can understand the frustration with plot devices which were implemented specifically to tie into the events of LOTR.
Having said that, I found Smaug (the Dragon) to be both incredibly well done (CGI) and a far more interesting villain than Azog from the prior film. The dwarves are not as charismatic as the original LOTR cast and fully developing and differentiating their characters is an insanely difficult task to accomplish. I felt that was a major flaw to the first film which I found somewhat forgivable this go around because the Dragon steals the show.
I don't think either Hobbit episode would be as commercially successful if not for the nostalgic LOTR fan base. It really shows just how many critical variables are involved with a production of this magnitude and how they all need to blend together to achieve the best possible film. Everything came together on LOTR but the Hobbit hasn't bee quite so fortunate.
Not sure I buy into the premise that Del Torro could have made a "beautiful movie". While I liked Pacific Rim I wouldn't say he has an overall body of work that suggests any better of a finished product.

My endorsement of Del Toro is based on Pans Labyrinth, a movie that engages in a kind of story telling Jackson is just incapable of. If you haven't see it, I highly recommend it

Nashou | LOL, why does this not surprise me. I wouldn't sit through this pile of crap 4 more times if you paid me 50 dollars.
The world is full of people who write books and people who print books.

sure, millions of simple minded people love it, they would be just as happy sitting through Transformers episode 9 and other mindless action garbage.
the point is we have one of the greatest literary works of this genre degraded into a pile of crap, it will never be made again, it will never be told like a truly engaging story story that it is. It will be just be Jacksons ode to people with no imagination and attention deficit disorder.
Lets put it this way Nash, the f*cking CARTOON was better than this POS from Jackson. f*ck him

For whatever reason, Jackson just kept "jacksonizing" the story more and more until the last movie turned into what it is. Dame shame really as the First hobbit was OK, some things i didn't like but at least it was watchable.
