hi

i tried to hock up my ps1 to my nec 6pg plus video input, but it had no effect at all. someone at avs forum mentioned that i might dont have a working videoboard on the nec 6pg plus, but i couldnt get further infos... neither on the internet..
so what do you think, can i use my bnc input, am i doing something wrong or is the bnc input on my nec 6pg just leading nowhere..?

Allot of the PG's didn't have a quad decoder card installed ( the quad decoder converts composite and s-video to RGBHV ) even though they put the jacks on the front of the projector. You can use an external quad decoder. They come up on eBay all the time.

For testing purposes you may want to connect your PS1's composite output to the NEC's green input, and watch if you get a proper picture (only on green of course). But most likely you really don't have the decoder board (that wasn't standard on PG 6 models), but don't even bother with that... I'm sure there is a workaround to connect the PS through RGBHV, so do it that way, you'll get better picture with that anyway
Other problem is if you have a stock NEC you'll get various problems sooner or later, because the caps are leaking due to their age, so count on a massive recapping..

hi

on ebay i dont get any reasonable results by searching for a quad decoder (its austrian ebay(vienna)). can you spezify that term please?;

a workaround would be great, as cheap as possible or free? pls dont come with recaping now, im just glad i could power it up the first time;))

Quad standard decoder in english. I searched, there's only one right now on eBay.com.

tried video to rgbhv converter now and omg they cost more than what i got my projector for. (about 150-200 bucks) way too much.. hmm, any ideas or is there a diy kit for it you know about? or whats the name of the nec quad decoder card, may its cheaper?

Keep watching eBay. I see quad decoders sell for $15.00 to $45.00 USD all the time. I think I paid $35 for mine. Shipping might be costly to Austria though, so find one in the EU.

The quad decoder card is under the metal cover, closest to the back of the set, right in front of the rear panel. That metal cover covers 3 PC boards. If the slot closest to the back of the set, you do not have a quad decoder installed. It was optional with the 6PG sets, but did come with the 9PG sets. I do have a bunch here.

5 min searching in the google gave the attached picture. Connect the red/green/blue signals to the projector with a proper 75 Ohm cable and you're ready for 240P at the lowest additional cost!

Ahhh very cool! Wonder if the North American consoles can do this?

Would the projector's RGB inputs require the 220µ farad capacitors, or is that just for the SCART input?

I don't think that's matter, it's just there for safety, it can be omitted.
EDIT: further reading gave me the intention for proper work you may also want to connect the "composite video signal" to the projector's H sync input.

Not all put out RGB, the N64, 8 bit NES, Atari 2600 and 3DO consoles dont, they convert the digital signal straight to composite and s-video.

The Playstation RGB has no sync line, it uses composite video for its sync, which doesnt work with any NEC ive ever tried, you can make a simple circuit using an LM1881 and thatll do it. Ive got the diagram at home, but its very easy to find online.

The 220uF caps in the RGB lines are there for AC coupling, not for safety!! You can use a different value, 100uF to 470uF will work, but it will have an effect of colour reproduction. Some consoles have the cap-resistor combo built in, in the case of the Playstation only the resistors are built in, they are between the AV socket and the CXA1645 chip.
