K boys......Today I was walking through the mall and passed through some displays at a department stores. They looked pretty good but very small even at 60 inches(cannot believe I am saying that). They were showing Pixars Monsters University. Looked great I thought. So I bought the blu ray version earlier today. I just finished watching it with my kids and WOW! I did some fine tuning on the convergence grid prior. It looked just as good as the displays I saw but only bigger and was as crisp as the Sharp Auqios that I saw. I was reading the other day how Hollywood wants to double the prices of Blu-rays the next 3 years and also bring a fight to the redbox company. Evidently they are pissed off rentals of their media are under 2 bucks when so many people have nice looking displays now days. They said there is no longer the quality drop of it used to be just ten years ago between a movie house and a home 4:3 CRT tube. My wondering mind can only think given the quality and size of my screen that Hollywood would love to bill me for size of the picture and the quality and value I receive. BASTARDS!!!!

If they raise the price of Bluray, ( and I doubt it ) it would probably be the nail in the coffin for the format.

Its not exactly cheap here, but kid's movies like the top notch popular ones are generally $30-$40 plus, which is f***en outrageous.

I usually pay up to 32.99 for a brand new release and $17.99-19.99 for the year old stuff. Some as cheap as $7 in the bargain bin

The local video store sells used bd's for 5 bucks each. They clean them in the machine and warranty them for 30 days. Its a pretty good deal. There is a local pawn shop that sells them for 5 bucks also and sometimes as low as three bucks.

I for one refuse to subscribe to the downloading 'format' of today. Heck, I don't even own a DVR! I was actually thinking of going to go see a movie last night, then figured I'd go buy a BR instead. In the end, I did what I always do, crashed in front of the TV, watched a part of King Kong that was on, and fell asleep an hour into it.

Hollywood is just going to shoot themselves in the foot if they try that. As it is, I only buy certain titles on bluray, and only when they are used and cheap.
I'm not wasting a dime on anything I'll just watch once and forget about.
I'm damn near with Curt these days.... 2 years and 62 hours on the projector. Except I fall asleep to documentaries on the History channel. Yayy...

the Barco's are super quiet, you can now fall asleep so much sooner and snooze through 3/4's of a movie in stead of just half

Format has nothing to do with viewing, If it looked good on VHS, they would want their cut.

No way
Blu ray movies are still pricey here
DVDs on the other hand are near death here as they are dirt cheap except the new ones
I hate having to download movies as they are so compressed compared to blu ray they look almost like a mix between DVD and VHS

What do you mean by "download"? Are you talking about torrenting cams or something?
I've been watching a lot of streaming lately, and it looks far, far superior to DVD. There are some occasional scenes where the compression noise is a bit more noticeable, like very dark scenes, but most of the time it's very good - and noticeably sharper than OTA or satellite, with fine detail and in some movies, and even film grain.
Vudu HDX is slightly better than iTunes/Apple TV. We've watched a handful of Vudu HDX movies now, and I'd say unless you have a very good setup - both audio and video - you probably people won't even be able to tell it isn't Blu-ray - at least 95% of the time, anyway. Watching a lower-end eight-inch or ES-focus machine? Forget it. In that case, I'd go out on a limb and say Vudu HDX is for all practical purposes indistinguishable from Blu-ray.
Do I watch everything that way? Absolutely not. I still watch the really good stuff on Blu-ray, but for documentaries, comedies, special-intrest, etc., I hate to say it but streaming is getting pretty damn decent.

Ditto. I've been watching craigslist, and occasionally people are selling lots of 10, 20, 30 and more, often for under $5 each. Pawn shops seem to be $5 or so for stuff I don't want, and like $8-10 for the stuff I'm interested in.

$33? Man, that's way too much. The only time I'll pay anywhere near that is either for a gift when I don't have the luxury of waiting, or if I have buddies coming over to watch a 3D title - those are typically around $30. Some of the music BD's are in the low-$20's, but the rest of the time, I try to pay around $20 or less.
I buy almost everything on Amazon. That helps with the pricing immensely compared to local store prices (unless there's a big sale).
