I'm new to the forum and come looking for some help diagnosing a problem with an NEC XG85.

I have had the projector for 5 years or so and it has been rock solid until recently. About two weeks ago, I started to lose focus on the blue tube, and the pj would shut down every once in a while. The problem progressively got worse and it would shut down after ten seconds or so. It was showing an F9 error code (F-drive board). I was lucky enough to get another (known good) F-drive board and swapped them out. After refocusing and touching up convergence, everything looked great and seemed to be working perfectly, for about an hour. It shut down again and showed the same F9 code and everything is blurry. I can't keep throwing F-drive boards at it as it seems there is something else going on to make these boards go bad. Any ideas or thoughts on what might be going on would be appreciated.

If you're buying used F boards, then sure, you can have repetitive failures. these boards run red hot, so they are a pretty common failure point. How about I repair your F board(s) with new parts that will work another 10 years? Smile

Curt, thanks for the fast reply. Is there something else that could be going on that would cause the F-drive board to fail? It just seems odd to go through two so quickly.

Not that I've seen. Just luck of the draw of 2 old boards I think.

Don't ever feel like you should be sorry for duplicate posting and extra posts, and never EVER feel sorry about meaningless posts. Half the sh** I post is meaningless, I did an 8 post duplicate about 3 weeks ago, then Curt followed suit a few days late with a 6 post duplicate.... Laughing Laughing
