Small red wire.

Some modifications from Barco i think have them on some of my 909 boards also.

Is that at the far side of the back corner? Two screws hold it in instead of plastic clips? Does it just slide out after that?

The red wire goes nowhere at all. Loops back on its self and just sits there.

Someone has already replaced the quad Almost guaranteed that the small wire is arcing to the chassis. ut about 4 layers of heatshrink over the end, and I'll bet it will go away.

Would I see this arcing with the lid open you reckon or no? Its obviously a very fine arc if it is at all, but you may remember Curt when I first got this Barco I spoke with you via email about the sound which sure as hell sounds like arcing to me!!

The distortion on the screen and the buzzing squealing sounds are pretty simular to what I saw way back in the day when I had that serious arcing issue with a Sony 1001QM ( which in that case was caused by using Permatex ULTRA Black automotive silicone to attach the leads to the new tubes ).

Its got some heatshrink stuffed up inside it, it would have to jump about an inch to arc, but I guess that isn't out of the question either.

I will dig out a heap of heatshrink tube tomorrow and see what I can do.

Open the cover and see if the sound is coming from the horizontal deflection module. If so, its letting you know its getting ready to fail. And if you look at the left of the image if/when scan rate is above 1280X1024, you should also see some banding and jumping/moving in the image.

Which module is that? The buzzing is coming more from the right hand side ( assuming the machine was on the floor and you were standing behind it ) in the area with the quadrupler. Seen here in this corner:



You will see the little red wire there, it folds back and is just on the other side of that aluminium piece it goes through.


There is nothing different though anywhere on the screen regardless of scanrate, its exactly the same from 640x480 @at 60Hz right up to 1920x1080 @72Hz.

While youre here Mike, which focus module is this? Early or later one?

The larger heat sink on the focus module (one on far left rear in tray) appears to be the right one to have. The upgraded version of the Focus module is easily identified by the heat sink being larger.


The noise coming from that corner I'm not aware of. The Horizontal deflection module is in the center of the boards in the rear. the one with the large heat sink surface.


If the noise is coming from that corner, it could be the low voltage power supply, or even the "Power Factor Correction Module" (long for "power conditioner"). Either one of them would have the inductors on it that could cause the vibration noise.

I say you do what Curt had previously recommended and use a hose to better isolate where the noise is coming from. Once that is done, if the PFC module, you can get the other version of the power supply that goes in that slot, which is a passive unit.

If you have really bad power in your area, the PFC module could be good to have, but if not, it's really best to go with the passive version and let the low voltage power supply do the correction, which is what they do anyway, and they are way cheaper and far removed from being a problem.

Isn't this the quad that's buzzing? My 1208s/e had the same, buzzing noises on white screens, replaced the quad and it's dead silent now.

Maybe the HV is unstable which causes the distortions in the screen?

Someone replaced the quad at some point yeah, after I just put a heap of heat shrink on the little red wire it seems to have reduced the volume of the sound abit, but it is still there.

The quadrupler of the projector of Casethecorvetteman it is not standard. Surely it was replaced.

It was yes. There is another option coming my way shortly, however im waiting on another person to make a phone call and get it organized.

Could you please provide the part number of the quad you have ?

Just a guess but it might be that the exchanged quad is not the correct one (according to the second red wire) and might cause that the picture get unstable.

The original 909 quad has only the HV lead (big red wire).

I disagree, I've used the older quads in the 909/Cine 9 without issues, but a minor arc from his focus lead to the chassis would explain everthing.. and also explain why (if the focus lead moves) why the symptoms change when he opens the cover.
