It's mind-boggling that you guys are still talking about CRT vs digital shootouts, hashing out the same stuff over and over and over. This has all played out time and time again.

FH Video had a demo room at CEDIA in Denver with a calibrated G90 next to a calibrated VW100... This is was in 2007 or 2008, I think. Back then, the VW100 was getting very close to looking as good as a G90. The G90 was much blacker, almost as sharp, and had better motion, but the Ruby looked pretty damn good. That was 5 or 6 years ago. Do you guys realize what's happened to good digital projectors since then?

I think most people in this forum have never seen anything like Kal's RS56, and would be truly stunned how good digital could be if they'd actually seen it.

The VW600 demo at CEDIA? 4k on a 13-foot wide 1.3-gain screen. It was phenomenal. Gorgeous, in fact. $15k retail, so street will probably be in the $12k ballpark. The only way to do anything remotely similar with CRT is a blend rig like Athanasios'. Two 9500 LC's, two blenders, two Moome cards, a Lumagen, and a room and ceiling to accommodate it all... You aren't going to be far off the VW600, but you still don't have a 4k setup. Going forward, maybe you will, maybe you won't.

The JVC X900 demo was also great - really good - though their demo material left a lot to be desired.

The ship has sailed people. There are now excellent digitals. Get over it. If you love CRT, and you enjoy the hobby, that's awesome - more power to you. CRT is awesome in terms of bang-for-buck, and it does some things very well. But, it also has down-sides, and digital is doing some of these things pretty damn well at this point, and some things much better. So, CRT vs. digital shootouts at this point are a bit silly IMHO.

It really is a "use what you like and can afford/justify/rationalize" type of thing at this point.

BTW, regardless of which side of the fence you're on, comparing a VW1000 to an 808 is certainly beyond pointless.

ecrabb.. U need to accept that we are some that have Digital JVC and still prefer CRT.. Maybe reasons that dont make sence to you.. But like you dont understand it, i never think you will be able to explain us why CRT is outdated.

Steve,
YOU ARE WRONG. I won't get over it and never will. Oh wait, you were talking about digital vs CRT and not me going to Cedia. Wink

I would have loved to have spent some time at the Embassy Suites checking out the new JVCs. They supposedly have better fill factor for better smoothness. The DI should give close to CRT level on/off cr. As for the Sony, I know Mike Garrett loved it. I think he said that will probably be his new pj.

I didn't say CRT was outdated. I said there's no reason to keep hashing this sh*t out over and over and over. CRT is great. Digital is great. Use whatever-the-hell you want to. This endless CRT vs. digital debate is stupid.

Forum member benareeno (who bought my mid-to-high-grade 8" LC EM focused Barco clone machine with softish lenses) commented at how good the RS56 looked when he saw both head to head. We were able to switch back and forth, looking at various content. The black level difference wasn't noticeable/is a non-issue. (I find most CRT owners turn their brightness down too far and crush blacks, loosing detail. While there will of course be some exceptions, most times when someone with a CRT projector says they can't see their hand in front of their face, they're crushing black).

You can think so.. But i like the idea that somone come here with a nice SONY machine.. giving me a experience, and hope he will have some experience to..

so your right its pointless arguing about it.. But it makes perfect sence to have some real experience, and that is happening because we are having this debate.

Im sure your welcome to stay out of the thread if you dont like the debate, or the people in it.

Try if you can put your sh*t back in the hole it came out of please, so we can have a decent hygene around here.. Wink

Real experience? Comparing a Barco 808 and a VW10000? ROTFLMAO!!! Call me when there's a professional calibrating both displays on the same screen, under some controlled conditions that can even be remotely considered scientific. Hell, call me when there's something interesting or relevant to compare.

I have just as much right to my opinion, and just as much right to post in this thread (or any other) as you, so you can stop welcoming me not to post.

And I like to visit mr stridsvognen and do a friendly side by side test.

Dont know if u missed the part where i invited to a shootout, and he accepted, and hopfull we will in the future make a SONY HW50 vs Marquee 9553LC.. which gives me the honor to se a SONY machine here, and being able to coment on how it looks.

Nothing would be more simple to me than buying a Digital that beats my Marquee on on the stuff i look for in a picture..

And yeah.. you have as much right to be here as me.. But seriously. I think you just like to ofend people with your dirty language or something... So expect to get some back..

So stop telling me to stop telling you what to do.. Razz

And nothing beats a shootout like that, if its done right, it might be something we both will remember and be able to use in the future.

I agree that arguing in a forum mostly is pointless, like no one have the same level, and no one have a common reference..

But sometimes it happens that a forum brings people together, nothing beats sitting in the same sofa talking about the same image..

Thanks Diddern.. Thumbs Up

If I had any intent to offend anybody, believe me... There are numerous words I could choose which would be much, much more offensive than the slang for "afføring".

Ha, once things devolved into the standard CRT vs digital pissing match, I completely forgot that this had anything to do with Greg Smile I have found the post-hoc arguments constructed to defend people's display tech preferences to be highly entertaining, despite ecrabb's efforts to keep the discusion reasonable since no perfect display tech exists (yet).

"fill factor" = add more pixels to have a more soften and analog picture like CRT's already have Wink
