The one in the link looks exactly like it, but I'm not 100% sure. I can find out tomorrow for sure.

Are you sure? That's a pretty big, bright, and very spendy projector for sim duty. It's typically used in d-cinema. I would have guessed an SRX 105 or 110 (or its newer brethren) at well under a quarter of the price - that's what you usually see in sims.
How recent is this install?

I can find out tomorrow, but it is big. They both have the shutters on the front of them, as you know greatly reduces the light to the screen. And the install is about 5 years old by now.
I'll get all info on it tomorrow.

Ok, so lets get back to apples to almost apples and compare a Runco from around that era the Cine 9 was released....

Doesn't stand a f***en chance does it!!

| Francisco wrote: | @Diddern, I don't get it… why are you testing CRT's in general??? Why are you interested in CRT and modifications at all? If you say you are looking for the best picture for your own use and already own a VW1000.
I may assume your time is valuable as well why putting so much time in defending YOUR facts.
When I was looking for an upgrade when I owned a Barco 808 LC, I had seen Sony's HW50 and VW1000, JVC's and so on. I really liked the way they preformed. I speak for myself if I say that I liked the improved blacks and find them very close maybe same performance as CRT. Nobody speaks about light output which I found stunning on new HW50 and VW1000 almost too much. Did like the sharpness on digital, Didn't like motion blur, especially on JVC's.
At that time I came in contact with people and had the chance to buy a few Barco 909's. I chose the adventure and don't regret it for a single day. I like to tweak and modify to the best picture I can throw out of it. For me it's almost same fun as watching a movie with friends. I have learned it myself trough all the years. I've med people who I would have never med around all over the world if I didn't step into the adventure. So for me CRT is more then just a nice picture. And for me the differences are not so big digital vs CRT. they both have pro's and con's.
I started with CRT's in 2005 and learned that every 0,5% change can be a big change in the end. At that time I made my own sheimpflug on my Sony 1270 which gave far better focus all over the picture. I will not spending a lot of money on someone who's claiming to have superior modifications with X improvements and so on. I'm interested to know how other experience it. However I know there is some improvements to gain on the video chain of the 909 that I will try to improve myself. |
Short verson.
Have some friends that is very similar to the people here on this forum. And they say that 909 and so on is the best.
I was tired of that and desired to show this since they only have the CRT glasses on
And the result was different leage even with a hw50
I will never ever put up a CRT finished with this a long time ago.
And the tests was only to show some people that CRT is the old days, but still gives a great picture.
And I like to test side by side for fun.
And in quality a 909 or a CRT is. Not worth it. But some will always like or think that it was better before.
And some times yes also, but CRT so far away that's digital in a different leage. The. Sony hw50 and the vw1000 of even on the same planet just to state a point... I know we live on earth hehe.

I have been testing a Greg Eisemann HDMI Port 3 board and its just magic. I could tell you all day how good it is but you will produce technical details that show a digital is better.

I could but what would be the point in this thread??Screen shots rarely show whats actually happening. What I can tell you is I can see a difference and my wife who honestly couldn't care less what was projecting the image had to say "wow how good is that" when we watched a movie last night (Sanctum). I am absolutely stocked with Gregs board its in another league compared to the external Moome box.

It's. Not just technical details that shows a digital is better ,,,if you think so just stick to your CRT.

Yeah a 1:1 pixel resolution shot tells a lot, no matter how sh*tty the picture is..
So if you can make a pic with the fury as input and the new HDMI input, it will tell if the Fury cut off the bandwidth.

You are right in this mod from Greg it is much better.
Screenshots just give a indication nothing else.
But compared with same shutter on camera and time and same camera you see easy differences,
But still just a indication.
What I can't understand let digital be digital and CRT be CRT. There is no way in hell a CRT will be better, but maybe better to a person that like this so much.
If you like your CRT do not compare with a god digital. And with compare I mean side by side with a switch with both with the same picture or film. Everything else is just bull**** testing.

Hey stop putting all CRT in the same box, your the one not knowing the dfifference from a 808AC and a 909LC, and they are still just Barco CRT projectors. with more or less the same bandwidth.
There is other options out there..

Well there you have it CRT will be CRT and Digital will be Digital and they are different in almost every way the only real thing in common is that they both produce an image but which one you like better is unlikely to be answered with technical specifications as in the case of CRT at least the some of all the parts is a greater image than can be described in technical terms well at least it is for me.
