I don't doubt it. And you can even set your own resolution, tweaking it to your preference.
Have you seen the Model3 emulator?

I don't think I'd care much for the BPTVs, image only visible from straight on position, and with really uneven intensity across the screen. Kind of reminds me of a bad hologram. Size just isn't everything. |
I have used rear projection tvs for years(before I decided to go bigger to a 120 inch screen) and never had a problem like you mention heck I have two rear pros right now and neither behave like that
Crt is still better for classic and new games alike(I know along with a few others on here)
My marquee is razor sharp like in the pic case posted which is best
(Also thinking of getting a dwin myself)

That 8-player game you refer to, would that be the Daytona? |
Yeah.. I think I've posted this pic somewhere else on here before, but this is it:
I actually swapped the lenticular screens out on all 8 units, pulled from scrapped sets I got for free on craigslist. #3 screen was crappy so I gotta swap it out again, but you can still see how brilliant they can be off-center. It actually looks brighter in person -- it's a quick exposure so as not to blur the graphics.
You're thinking of 80's sets, many of which had serious hot-spotting issues -- tubes weren't as bright then.

Sweet pic man
FYI I had a 80's model rptv and the hotspoting was true about them but I bumped the g2's up a bit on my set and it fixed it(g2 on those tvs were set conservative but even with the g2's set were I had the the tubes still lasted for a long time after that)
Banz if you need a screen to those hit me up I have a couple from projection tvs I scrapped back of this

Yep, plus a good choice of games
I have got the Model 3 emulator called Supermodel yes, but its not complete enough for me to bother with yet.
I used to play Nebula Model 2 emu over the internet with Daytona USA, awesome fun. Could race for hours and not get sick of it.
Banzairun's setup uses real machines.

Thanks for great pictures. I guess the BPTVs I've been exposed to were some early models. The Daytona 8-player looks good enough, I can see the screen content and it must be more than 45 degrees off from the camera. But do you get that really deep black level as on a regular CRT?
Emualtion:
Right. The Nebula does a really good job actually. The Model3 emulator needs some more work, I've noticed.
Nowadays I often leave the Indy 500 (deluxe version with widescreen) on my PC monitor, in demoplay. It looks really good om my 24'' LED even for a game from 1995.
About my Sony projector; I've not yet even started, sorry. I need to finish another project of recapping a bunch of namco's small board systems NA1 and NA2, they have leaking SMD caps. If you have one of these immediately clean it as the leakage will eat any metal and ICs around.

Pull those off and use regulars.
Yes a rear pro TV will have the same or better blacks, they are almost all LC, almost all colour filtered C elements, and almost all have a screen that is close to black when turned off.

I've just realized something. A CRT is not completely black. It is grey, or towards a grey-green tint. It's only when the ambient light is very low you actually experience the blackness.
To really promote the black in the CRT image I would need to put a smoked glass infront, to dimm the picture some.
SMD caps: Yes. I 've bought plenty of the radial lead/normal types, I shape the legs with small pliers to then fit these on the SMD pads.

Well, I meant that the surface of the CRT is rarely really black. Most of them are actually grey. Even though I calibrate it to total zero light emission on the dark areas, if there's light in the room the surface is still not black. You understand me?

Yep, all except why you have the lights on!! Turn the lights off, it improves every type of display
They are actually closer to white, its the tinting in the glass that makes them look dark grey

I have been thinking about my SONY here, and I just cannot motivate myself to keep it. Even if I would fix it, putting som money on new caps for the PSU, I still would not use the projector. It's too large and too heavy for me. I just can't handle it by myself, it takes two persons to manage.
So I'm reasoning about how I can 'put it to sleep' in a respectable way. I feel that to gut it and sell off as parts is the only alternative. I don't want to just leave it at the recycling complete, do be destroyed.
Is there even a slight demand for parts like the remote, lenses, the module PCBs at the rear, and ofcourse the CRTs?

Yes, I know. But it's still too large for my living room.

Don't have a garage, and my living room is around 20 square meterss, ceiling height around 2½ meters. It would shrink my space considerably. I must prioritize.
