Last night while watching a movie, my ceiling mounting G-90 made a muffled "pop" sound. The picture looked like it took a
breath for an instant and continued to operate normally except the convergence is now a little off across the whole screen.
I initially assumed it was a high voltage leak, but it didn't have a sharp snap to it. As I later thought about it, I considered
that it may have been a capacitor failing, as this unit was manufactured in Feb '99 around the beginning of the "capacitor
plague" period. I opened the cover and looked around and didn't see any thing obvious, it is still pretty clean inside, no
significant dust build up. The unit has 3700 hrs. and show no codes. I need to touch up the convergence, but would like to
understand what caused this first. I replaced the dallas chip six yrs ago when I first got it, and it has been trouble free
since. The input comes in through a Moome card and all is powered through a panamax power conditioner.
Any ideas ?
