Checking the climate data shows that the average high and low in Denver during Jan is 45 and 18. Sorry, you may have an occasional day where the heat spikes (I experienced this in Raleigh), but more often than not the weather returns to the historical average.

I'm no fan of winter, but winters are easy to take here because we get spring 5-6 times every winter. It's very common for temps to hit the 60's throughout the winter. I just looked at historical records for Denver for this past January: 4 days in the 60's, 11 days in the 50's. February had 3 days in the 60's, 6 days in the 50's. Sure, we get cold weather and snow too, but when it's sunny (which is most of the time) it's pretty easy to take. Meanwhile summer temps rarely top 100, humidity is typically 20-30%, and the nights cool down to 60 or so. Makes for very pleasant sleeping. I rarely run my AC more than 2-3 weeks per summer -- just let the fresh air blow through.

Not sure if I'll be able to make it down to Cedia or not, but if you guys want to do a beer tour of Ft. Collins (6 breweries & a brewpub within 3 miles of my house) ... Very Happy

Speaking of Knoxville... I'm dating myself here, but I was there for the '82 World's Fair. To bring this somewhat back OT, there was an awesome display there. I don't remember any of the details, but there was this massive multimedia install with something like 80 video monitors being drive by 80 LaserDisc players, controlled by 80 Apple ][ computers. I don't recall what the subject matter was even on - I think technology and innovation or something. The whole setup was all visible, behind glass on a giant wire shelving unit. I remember just being absolutely blown away. I probably have a picture of it somewhere.

Man, that was 31 years ago... Funny, some of the things I remember exhibited there like residential solar electric and electric cars are finally becoming viable and/or popular.

Sorry for the thread detour. We now return you to the mega road trip discussion, next stop Denver.

HOLY SH$T!! I was there, as well. Wouldn't be funny if we had accidentally ran into each other? Shocked

I remember the Japanese pavilion. They had a robot that drew pictures. I had one on my bedroom wall of a fish. I should ask my mom if she still has it in a closet somewhere.

Of course, I went to the '84 Fair in New Orleans as well.

Guys, just bumping this up. Looks like I'm leaving Vancouver around Sept 25 to head to CEDIA in Denver for the 27-29. Then off to Dallas for Oct 1 roughly for a week. Then to Washington DC for Oct 15 for 3 days. Then to Chicago to see Cliff and Craig., somewhere around Oct 19 then home.

Longest road trip ever.

Looks like I'm hitting 19 states I think. I will have some downtime to see the sights, and to hopefully meet some of you guys..

Hah! I hear that. Just spent the weekend in Chicago with my wife. Downtown Friday night and burbs on Saturday night for the Depeche Mode concert.

First, stop-and-go traffic on the Eisenhower Expressway on the way downtown - at 7pm on a Friday night. Stop-and-go for at least 5 miles. Why? Cleaning up an accident. Not on our side; on the opposite side. Rubber-necking.

Then we get downtown, and get the monetary anal-raping to park the car overnight and check into our hotel. Went out to eat and drink and had fun. It was a gorgeous night, so we went back to the hotel to the rooftop bar for a couple of $12 mixed drinks. We weren't even up there for an hour and had to go inside because of a city ordinance. No outdoor stuff after midnight. Rolling Eyes

The next night we stayed in the burbs to go to the Depeche Mode show... We got back to our hotel in Bolingbrook and decided to get some snacks and drinks to party in the room a little, but you can't buy in liquor after midnight. How backwards is that??!?! You can buy enough whiskey, tequila, and vodka to get a small Army sh*t-faced at 11:45 PM, but you can't buy a f*cking six-pack of beer after midnight. Now, if you want to go to a bar and get f*ck*** up there, then try to figure out how to get home, that's totally cool. Rolling Eyes

Oh, and tools? Judas Priest, Illinois has fleecing people down to a science. We must have spent $30 on tolls between 88 and 355. Oh, and if you got to a toll basket and you don't have coins (who the f*ck carries coins anymore?), you're just supposed to remember the time/place so you can pay the tolls online later.

We had fun, but man - you couldn't pay me enough to live there. Visiting once in awhile is just fine.

Don't talk to me about %&$ tolls! here in Vancouver, we finally have 2 tyoll bridges. One kicked in last year, the other about 3 years ago. The transit people were completely up front and said that out of country vehicles would not be tolled, as they had no tracking system. So while I did pay the first toll around Chicago, I didn't have a lot of US cash, and figured that Canadians wouldn't be tracked in the US system. So I screamed by.

6 months later, I got a $144 ticket in the mail. Piss me off royally! Very Happy

We have some great scenery here also

Definitely. Spent a couple summer vacations in Lewisburg with relatives as a kid, and of course driving to and fro through Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, and of course the Smokies. Definitely a pretty part of the country, but for me, nothing beats the Rockies for sheer, awesome beauty.

Just FYI, I'm adding Atlanta area to my stops. Seems that everyone wants to sell me high end projectors for cheap, so I may as well go inspect them all in person.

Again there is no truth to the rumor of a bromance between Curt and I. Laughing

I haven't figured out my trip yet, but I know I will be in Atlanta in two weeks. I will then head to Dallas and then Denver for Cedia. I will either go to Vegas to see my best friend or head back to Dallas. Either way, I will still come back through Dallas and then back to Atlanta..

Curt, how are you going to fit all of those pjs in the back of your Rav4? Wink

I'm not. I'm taking the car, so they'll all be shipped, but since I'm in the area anyway, I'll go inspect them in person.

And considering that you post about where you're going right after where I post about my travels, forget the bromance part, I'n now thinking more stalkerish type behaviour. Razz

If you only knew what I was doing while you were sleeping last year in the hotel room..... Wait, did I say that out loud? Edit, edit!!! Shocked Laughing

Dallas will be partially dictated by my brother getting me in to see his eye doctor. I really need to get my eyes checked and will modify my plans accordingly. My brother lives just a little northwest of downtown Dallas. Not sure where Phil lives, but I think his shop is west of Dallas. I have no idea where the rest of the Dallas crowd lives. It would be nice to drop by Buens and Haydns.

Chuchuf has basically gone MIA. I think Galen is still around. He lives in NW Atlanta. I think the rest of the Atlanta crowd is gone.

So here's how my itinerary is shaping up:

Leave Vancouver Sept 24

Sept 24- drive to Twin Falls Id,
Sept 25.- Denver. Co,
Sept 26-28- CEDIA in Denver
Sept 28- drive to Fort Worth, Tx
Sept 29- on the road to Fort Worth Tx
Sept 30 to Oct 7- Fort Worth, Tx
Oct 8- drive to Birmingham Al
Oct 9- drive to Atlanta, Ga
Oct 10- Drive to Greensboro, NC
Oct 11- drive to Washington DC
Oct 12-14- flexible anywhere between Fort Worth and Washington DC
Oct 14 to 17- Washington DC
Oct17/18- drive to Pottstown PA and towards Chicago
Oct 19- arrive at Cliffy's place early afternoon (maybe earlier)
Oct 20 -head back towards Vancouver via South Dakota.

October 23 or so- Back in Vancouver.

So, I've got time to kill in Denver, depending on how big CEDIA is. (I've never been) Confirmed dinner with Dragan at some point in time in there.

I've got some downtime in the DFW area as well, as well as the drive between DFW and Washington DC. Need to be in DC to buy projectors on the 14 through 17, and the schedule is pretty tight between DC and making sure I'm at Cliff's place for Saturday the 19. More downtime on the drive home.

Any questions? Smile I've got some!

I've never been to the DFW area, although I was in Albuquerque 3 years ago. I've also never been to the east coast area, and understand from pictures that the fall colors are amazing. I'll have my DSLR with me, and will be playing tacky tourist whenever possible. I'm hoping I'll meet Mike Parker, Greg Eisemann and Clarence if he's around. Any sights to see while I'm on the East Coast? Post away with recommendations!

All I know is that it's a good thing I paid off my shipping bill with my shipper today, the potential amount of sets I'm buying and shipping back is staggering.
