Thanks guys. I took it to a mechanic and hopefully he will get back to me today.
As I have mentioned in the past, this is my fun vacation for the year. I literally sat in the car for three hours hoping it was an electrical issue that would self correct. I kept saying "Well, I can still make it to Denver!". After changing both batteries with no resolution, I knew I was screwed. I limped into my brother's place around 9:30 with barely any brakes.
I hope you two have a good time. I am not sure how big it is but there is an AVS dinner tonight somewhere. Friday night is the big party.
Mike Garrett from AVS called me last night and he was pretty excited to see what was coming out. I am curious to see what JVC does.
Steve or Curt,
Outside of projectors, the one other thing I was interested in is the Technicolor 4k VP chip. I think they are licensing the tech to other companies and I would be interested in how it performs and who is going to use it.
Curt,
I was talking with my brother's roommate and he said he is doing all types of installs. If you would like to get together with him when you are in Dallas, then I will ask him if he is available. My schedule here determines when I will leave. If the car is fixed tomorrow, then I am heading to ATL on Sat and SoFl on Mon. If I am stuck here till next week then we will have to get together.

Still sucks that you're not here. I will start a different thread regarding my opinions at CEDIA, and I will go the get-together tomorrow night (Friday) with the AVS thing. From the avs site:
If you are going to be there, AVS is working on a couple of events you should know about. First, we're planning a party on Friday evening, Sept. 27, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at Jazz@Jack's, 500 16th St, #320, Denver, CO 80202;
I saw the avs booth as I toured the floor.. no one was there. Got tired after 6 hours on the floor, so I bailed. Heading back tomorrow with my camera, and will attempt to load up pix. It's with my DSLR, so I may not be able to upload them here. Might be able to in photobucket or something like that, and link to them. Saw lots, see the other thread in the OT section.

It looks like I may be stuck here till next week. The mechanic told me to take it to the dealer to try get them to replace the SBC pump under warranty. I will hear back from them tomorrow. My guess is it won't be ready till at least Monday.
Curt,
Did you run into Steve at the Irule booth? You can't miss him. He is the tall guy.

Yeah right. I did have to pay for the room last night in Denver unfortunately.
That is cool that you got to hook up with Steve. The whole Irule gang are great.

Sucks to hear about your car spanky I know how you feel though
I took one in here lately for a ac compressor and I got a loaner to at least to and get something to eat as they took longer then I expected
But I hope you get your car fixed soon as I know how it sucks to have car trouble(eg broke down at the side of the road due to dead fuel pump)
I have been watching this thread and curt up load some pics SOON I have wanted to go out west but haven't had the time

No. I returned to my brother's place in Dallas. Denver would have been another 500+ miles with no brakes. As it was, I had to drive 250 miles back to my brother's place. It was such a dangerous situation that I probably should have gotten a tow truck. The best description I could come up with is imagine changing your brake pads and then needing to bleed the brakes. If one can imagine pushing the pedal all the way to the floor and barely being able to stop. That is what I had to deal with. Fortunately, it was all highway back to my brothers.
Since I cancelled my reservation after 4 PM, they charged me for that night. They better not charge me for all three nights or I will raise hell.
Hope you guys have fun.

Spanky I had that happen to me before in my cordoba except the brake booster failed
I know how it feels when you have no brakes except I was in traffic when mine did it (not fun when you nearly rear end someone with a older car) I agree its dangerous to not have brakes
The worse part was almost each time I hit the brakes it would kill the engine(not good when your in rush hour triffic)
Belive me spanky you got lucky that there was nothing but open highway
FYI if this were to happen again don't be afraid to use the e brake(trust me)

Yeah I was lucky, but it still wasn't a picnic. I was on a four lane divided highway with a speed limit of 75mph. My car wouldn't go over 60 mph, because of the malfunction. I guess the computer limits the top speed when there is a problem. Anyway, I had 18 wheelers barreling down on me the entire way back. I didn't have to brake, but it is still a little disconcerting seeing a big rig in your mirror with such a speed discrepancy.
I just heard back from the dealer. They are replacing the pump under warranty, so no cost to me. The car won't be ready till Mon, so Curt lets get together when you get here.

That's not good when it limits your speed(but its better then being out of control at high speed)
I Only got the reduced engine power message in my caddie one time and that was because the drive by wire module and the PCM lost connection(the PCM went nuts) luckily I was in a parking lot instead of the interstate when it happened(still not fun but a hell of better then it would have been had it crapped out and me doing 80mph in interstate traffic)
Yet I still had the risk of plowing through the Walmart I was at(luckily the PCM killed the engine and disabled the starter)
Costed me around 500 ish when all was said and done after a week at the dealer(I wish I had asked for a loaner)
Glad to hear you don't have to pay that's a huge plus
FYI car companies started putting fail safes in when they started using drive by wire(look under the dash at the gas pedal you wi see no cable)

Scary bad, Spanky! I don't know if I would have had the balls to do anything but crash the beast into the local Mercedes dealership.. right through their glass showroom window!
"It's under warranty, fix it!'
Sure, sounds good.
FYI for anyone.. I need to be in Dallas on tuesday, and realized it's only a 12 hour drive from Denver. I am leaving tomorrow early afternoon sometime, so if someone is between Denver and Dallas and wants to get together, I've got some downtime. Otherwise tomorrow Am I will look for tacky touristy things to do.

i used to own a cube truck. 11,000lb GVW truck with a 9x7x13 capacity back end. budget rents a million of them, i had one for hauling furniture and lumber.
I was coming back to Vancouver from BC interior and slammed on the brakes before I left Cache Creek. Turns out that I broke a belt in the braking system (i don't know cars well enough to remember what it was) and that left me with essentially no brakes. i found this out coming down the other side of the mountains. i managed to nurse the beast home at times literally standing on the brake pedal pulling back on the steering wheel to get more pressure on the pedal.
single most stupid thing I have ever done.
Got home and had the truck towed to my mechanic.

I got my car back Mon and it seems to be working fine. Heading to Atl on Wed and SoFL on Fri.
I just got back from dinner with Curt. Curt, Phil Smith and I had dinner on Mon night. I really can't believe how much smack Curt was talking about CRTs. He said he has already installed two digitals in his house.

Shut up, Spanky!
What I've learned in Dallas:
-I lost my ChickFilA virginity tonight. A bit overrated, but good. great waffle fried, undersalted. Their sundae sucked.
-A place called Bone Daddy's that was highly recommended by someone in Seattle was OK, but not great. What made up for it though is that the waitresses down here are allowed to sit with the customers at their table. Coming from a city where the staff member most likely would have been fired, that was weird to me. I asked her about it though. She sat with us through a good part of the meal, almost too much. She didn't do the same with the guys at the table next to us, and of course they left their business card for her with a note saying for her to call them. I think Spanky was grabbing her ass while she was sitting next to her, not sure though.
-Brisket is where it's at in Tx. A client took me to a hole in the wall for lunch, and the place ROCKED.
The projector buying trips is working WONDERS. I wish I could tell you the customers that I've seen that are getting me projectors and parts, but there's NDAs to sign and no picture taking allowed. All I can tell you guys is that there are wayyyyyyy more CRTs out there than you could ever imagine. that includes shitloads of 909 split packs, etc. The bad news is that chances are you'll never see them, as this big corporation 'just took a pile of Barco 808s to the dump'. They do not sell them for fear of litigation if they sell surplus stuff, and someone gets hurt from the stuff. Damn, you USers are litigious! SUCKS!!!!!
All I can say as well due to the NDAs, is that VDCDS (VDC Display Systems) has been verrrrry busy since the demise of the Marquee and CRTs. I didn't see the unit up and running, but man, it looks like the SHIZNIT! I"m guessing tse had some hand in it, and it really looks badass! Industrial HD gone wild!. Wayyy cool!
As per Spanky's tip, I'm off deep into Louisiana over the weekend to go eat some real cajun food. Looking really forward to it.
