I fired up my Electrohome projector on last night and the focus was really fuzzy. I haven't moved it so I know something was wrong. I pressed focus on the remote in back of the projector, had to put it all the way up to 7. Focus was back. Turned it on tonight just now, the focus doesn't respond. Ok, a few minutes later, same thing, Put it up almost all the way, and its focused. It never did this before... Could it be the humidity? EDIT Just now it went black, test pattern came on for a few seconds (which it does from time to time, accompanied with a little 'tick tick tick' sound).

Man, as many 4100 problems in last month as the last year as you and The Big E are fighting problems...good thing you scavenged most of the parts out of the spare chassis you had that I picked up from you! Time to starting reading the service manual, but I think others will chime in before I come up with ideas.

Oh hey Matt! How was the trip? How'd you like Number 9 mine? Did you start playing around with your blend? I actually had to take the focus back to put it back to normal because it started going out of focus. So, I'm thinking let it warm up before I used it. But, it has always had good focus right at start-up. The Convergence was sometimes off right at start up, but, this is something different. I have most of the spare boards here, except the CPU board, which I swapped because there was an issue. I have to say, I've had pretty good luck with this guy for like 5 years though with minor problems... ::Knock on wood::

via email, I understand Big Es first (only?) problem is the HV dist block is leaking -- I'm sure he'll post shortly on his snap crackle pop thread.
Just so folks know, MrBlonde and I met-up briefly a few weeks ago. Turned out my family was vacationing in his hometown (touring an old coal mine) less than a mile from his house! We chatted for an hour or so and I left with stripped ecp 4100 chassis he had along with a decent green and red tube. Blue has pattern burn-in...ugh. Anyway, thanks for asking -- we had a great trip and the mine tour has me ever more thankful for my employment circumstances.
Regarding re-capping: Nashou, I recently picked-up an ESR gauge and need to learn about how to check caps and replace them with skill. I won't replace stuff just to do it, but does seem likely a few 15yr+ caps will have gone -- plus any that are directly next to a heat source/hot spot should be replaced. I haven't looked yet, but can only imagine there are tons of threads on recapping considerations when/if the time comes.
Of course, that would be after I crudely evaluate the blend, do my cooling/browning experiment, play with glycols (tints/clear) and lenses (145s, tinted/clear), etc. A bunch to do before then tho'! Actually, at the pace I'm going, all the caps will be bad by then.

Yeah, the wear pattern was already like that when I bought it used. I don't remember if I sent you photos of them before. I think I mentioned that the blue had a wear pattern. I'll have a look in some threads about re-capping. Sure its nothing I can't handle. I'd just have to get the proper tools.

Well, I just bought a Marquee 8500 in beautiful condition on Ebay! $250!  I'll just have to keep it on this industrial strength cart I have, think its a little too large to fit in the current room my setup is in though, couldn't pass up the deal though, I'll just keep it on standby for a later date.
I contacted CAF Freight to ship it, anybody else know a better one?

My nec got shipped with this site www.frightcenter.com and it came to my house and I still had to have someone to help move the beast

Didn't really even want to come to my house much less help(be did as little as possible)
He could have unloaded it and rolled the set up to my door on the forklift hand cart but no he didn't
So I had to back my caddie(thank goodness I have a suv) up to the back of the trailer and me and my dad had to carry the set(on the pallet) to the vehicle so I could drive it about 50 feet to the house
I hope the next driver isn't a lazy smart alic who doesn't like a dirt road(there has been many haveier trucks then that on my road yet he moaned and complained the whole freaken time(then calls me later wanting directions on how to get back to the highway after me telling him BEFORE he left and him with a GPS in the truck)
I was happy to get my nec undamaged but the guy almost pissed me off
Thank goodness doc hollywood(mike Hanes) had installed handles on the set or moving this 200+ pound beast would be impossible
I wish curt would take me up on recapping the boards and do it as I am willing to pay him to do the work(be claimed nec sets are getting unreliable) and I know which board has the issue(I would do the work but I ain't wanting to risk it)
