I can guarantee a perfectly good looking cap on any of your boards will most likely test low enough to be out of tolerance.
Most of my caps leaking electrolytic were not visibly leaking until I pulled the cap. That is when the wet spot was revealed under most leaky caps.
Yes....some of the caps are very tight but its really not all that bad. If you do replace any capacitors on the boards please.....DO NOT DESOLDER FROM THE BOARD. I repeat.....DO NOT DESOLDER. Pull straight up with a pair of needle nose pliers and solder to old leads. Not only is this a safer method of replacement it is also much faster. It took me just about 8 hours or so to replace my caps. I wouldn't replace any more than ten then put the board back in the PJ and see what happens. I definitely mad some mistakes but was able to correct them before I got too far. Take you time....be patient. The results will be well worth the effort if you plan on sticking with your 10PG for a while.

What Zolzar said. You been warned, dont power on the set til they are all sorted.
Any original capacitor in the set with the exception of the big ones on the DEF board will almost certainly be leaking soon if they arent allready, and all youll do is kill it by trying to fix it any other way. Its an age related issue, no sense even trying to avoid it.

I know so I won't be using it(as I can't till the caps are replaced anyway since I get no picture from any input at all or the convergence grids don't show just the menu and info screen lettering)the video Input shows nothing either and I know the board for that is in the set
I have my Ecp to use till I get the pg fixed and back to working fully

update i am getting some spare boards for my set and i am going to try them till i find the culprit board that i need to repair
now does anyone know how to set the date on this machine mine shows 00/17/00 other then that the settings are retained when the set is off and unplugged

I have been in just about every one and still haven't found it(maybe I am overlooking it(I have done that before when setting up stuff) but I will look in the option menu and check

I knew I was overlooking it that's the one section I haven't looked(doh)I will look tomorrow and adjust it and see if it holds the date and time(thought it had a clock)

The clock is rather imprecise, it tooks on minutes in a month or two, at least my PG xtra does.

I don't mind as long as I am not seeing 00/17/00 as the date besides my cell phone keeps good time

My XG is somewhat inaccurate, but my PG holds time very well. Its a redundant feature at best, and id say its only there cause the set has a real time clock for tube and set hours.

Thanks case I set it and I am going to see if it holds time with the set unplugged
Took a bit of digging through the menu to find it  but I found it like you mentioned and got it set
But it is most likely because of the tube hour counter that they included it(no clue why it wasn't set though)
But considering I am the third owner of this beast I should be lucky it even does hold time
It went like this rich guy-> doc Hollywood (mike Hanes)-> me I am guessing the rich guy either didn't use or had the set retubed before he got rid of it as the tubes look mint(very slight wear on the green tube) and the hour meter has less then 2k hours
Going to get a photobucket account and upload some pics as soon as I get it fixed and in service

I have had computers not hold time due to the CMOS battery being dead(that would hold time right after replacing the said battery) but I am going to check the set later(its unplugged now) to make sure it holds time so I don't have to worry but I doubt the battery in the set is dead or it wouldn't hold the settings in the menu(just like to be sure)
But more then likely the clock was never set from day one

The PGs have an 1F super-capacitor instead of standard battery, it holds time for a few days if the set is unplugged.

I am thinking its on the system board but I am going to make sure the set hold time first as the battery would require desoldering to be replaced
Still think the clock had never been set as the settings and everything else is retained when the set is off and unplugged
