Also don't forget that on barco projectors the RGBHV BNC input (port 5?) is not universal, it only accepts either positive or negative sync (dunno which one), that's why only 1024x768 is working. Using the powerstrip program will let you adjust custom resolutions (and sync settings), Using the sony .inf won't help in this. Or you can make a cable for port3 (DB-9) that input will accept positive AND negative sync too, only in this case would be the sony inf useful.

It's a driver issue or more specifically a monitor.ini issue. With a regular VGA to VGA cable on a monitor the PC can read the monitors EDID file on pin 11 to see the name of the monitor and all the modes it supports. With the RGBHV cable it can't do that. SO you need to provide an ini file for the PC to tell it what it is connected to.

Your projector should have no problem at 72Hz.

Google for a SONY .ini, such as the G520P or SONY FW900. Load that into the PC and see if it will allow you to change resolutions.

Are you in XP or Winblows 7? I found XP much better for custom resolutions as compared to Win7 BUT I never did the .ini trick because I was working a net book with 7 Starter

You just laid some serious knowledge on me man! that's great Very Happy
I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on all 3 systems.
I'll google this monitor.ini business and see what I can see.
Also please forgive my ignorance using mhz instead of hz.
something seemed off but i wrote it anyway.

the big E - Those converter boxes are big money. I was hoping to find one under $50 to throw on the output of a receiver but I haven't even bought a receiver yet Smile I've been trying to keep my purchases to a minimum which is why I decided to go with my pc instead of shelling out the 35 clams for the power supply unit to my c200 popcorn hour. Crazy, I know.

Thanks everyone for chiming in.

I found this: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=GDMFW900

INF but no INI - will INF work as well? it has 3 *.ICM files, the INF and a *.cat file as well.

I got my box under 50 on amazon and it works great with my equipment (I will be getting a HD fury box soon as mine only works with 720p but that is the sweet spot for my projectors tubes anyway)

They need negative sync.

I second the negitive sync I think my Ecp is like this as it only locks onto certain resolutions on a direct connect pc via VGA

Relief!
My ATI x850xt has a DVI / S-VIDEO / VGA output on the back.
I am able to get a picture at 1080i 30hz using the VGA port to RGBVH bnc. I may bump the frequency up higher just to see if it will display.
I do have one last question.. I see a lot of pictures with the 5 bnc connectors PLUS the composite next to it. What is that? Why is that also connected on other people's pj?

Thank you!

The composite is just another video connection(a crappy one at that compared to rgb) but some use that connection so they can adjust certain settings that are only adjustable with the composite input(exsample my nec 10pg only alllows brightness and contrast adjustments while running rgb but it will allow the color and other adjustments while using the composite input

The adjustment lock out is only on certain projectors(my Ecp gives me the full list of controls while my nec doesn't while in rgb)

That's great info. Thank you for clarifying.
This system doesn't have a wireless remote so I guess that composite is useless to me.

There should be controls on the set both of mine have them(my nec only limited controls on the set as you have to have a remote with it my Ecp is a completely different animal is has a full set of controls just like the remote)

I have tried one of these
http://www.amazon.com/Lenkeng-Lkv385-Converter-Adapter-Projector/dp/B008BPJW3C

I wanted to play a Blu-ray disc (with bundled software) on a PC on my ECP and got "cannot play this content due to protection" (or similar) when used the VGA port.
When I used the HDMI port and the above unit it worked. I have a HDFury2 as well and it also worked.

The HDFury2 is probably better in many aspects but the Lenkeng seem to do the job.

If you play bluray from HDD no HDCP problems through VGA.

Its because of the digital to analog conversion(blu ray doesn't like that)

But if I were you I'd use the HDfury as it is the real deal the other is a clone and you have to be careful of clones(I have a clone convertor and it only works at 720p so I bought a HDfury from curt just waiting for him to ship it and the 07ms tubes)
