|
|
I have some HD-215 lens which have dust on the inside. I don't think it's mold but maybe it is? It doesn't seem to affect picture as far as I can tell but I've never had the lens clean either. I've removed the outer corner focus assembly by removing knob and screw This does not allow me access to clean the lens. The dust is between the two lens on the outside corner focus lens assembly. It looks like there are several small screws around the outside lens which may allow me to take the lens apart to clean it. Question is should I or am I asking for trouble? The dust is worse than you can tell by the photos but I wanted to highlight the type of dust (or mold) and the screws which might be able to be removed.

You need a little tool to get down inside there and unscrew the ring that retains the lenses. Our machine shop had one like P/N 5770A1 from mcmaster-carr. In the US we call these spanner wrenches, but IIRC in the UK that term is used for what we call a (open-ended) wrench.
Anyway, I took apart an HD6 recently just for fun -- want me to post all the pics? It is at work, but I can do so if folks want. SIX lenses in those bad boys, some plastic, some glass, some with funny coatings, others without. Wish my optics knowledge was better. Point being, with the tool, I wouldn't see any harm. Wonder how it got down in there?!
cheers,
Matt

Yea, I would love to see how it goes together. I have some HD8, I could practice with if they are built the same

OK, attached is a four-pager on how to reassemble. I just spent an hour playing with the lens again as it has been a few months now. Here is one picture, too.
