They are bullet proof reliable, and a clear indication as to how far backwards things have now gone in terms of build quality.

Back in 1995 I got an Electrohome/Advent Videobeam 750 surplus from my employer - my kids called it the three eyed monster! I've attached a scan of the brochure I still have for it. This thing had a manufacture date of january 1977 and looked like it came out of the 50's. But it was actually very simple to set up and easy to work on - the wooden top was hinged and just flipped up. Not much on the brightness side of things and the curved screen had a smallish sweet spot but i enjoyed it for 3-4 years, then sold it to a guy who wanted something to play games on.
