As someone finishing up his senior year in college who has a CRT projector in his dorm room, I think I have some credibility to speak on this one:

TOTALLY DO IT!

Our place became the default hangout joint after getting one. The price of CRT projectors are at a point where it is more cost effective to buy one of these than a newer projector. You will honestly get more love and viewing pleasure out of one of these than a DLP or LCD guaranteed. Besides, these things look way cooler. If that wasn't enough of a reason, all the chicks will dig you for your good taste in color balance and spot on spot on gamma. Trust me.

But the elders are right. Without sounding like a parrot, there are two things you really need to ask yourself beforehand:

1.) DO YOU HAVE SPACE? Keep in mind these things are freaking huge! But even if you don't have space, you can always MAKE space. Get creative! Projection systems are filled with crazy little tricks...
2.)HOW MUCH DO I WANT TO PUT INTO THIS? More input and connectivity means you have to spend more. Most CRTs use a different encoding scheme (RGBHV aka VGA) for displaying images. Damn shame that Denon does not have more outputs. Still, you could work with it. Perhaps run all your video sources to bypass the Denon via component and allowing just the audio through?

Why no snarky comments about the OP not asking about size or space required?

Snarky? HAHA!! Who's fault is it you cant take a joke? Laughing

I get a good laugh out of your replies to me anyway eCrabb, I cant believe after ive been here this long you're still taking things I say so seriously. Youll end up with an ulcer!! Hahaha!!

Serious talk now though, cause i thought id clarify a point of why I saw no reason question space... I live in a home that is 6 meters x 7 meters, and I have 2 CRT projectors in here... Piss easy. Wink

You might want to check your ceiling construction first.
Back in the day there would be no possible way a CRT projector could be ceiling-mounted at my place because of the weight.
I wouldn't recommend "desktop-front" projection in a dorm room because of the space occupied.

Well, just my $0.02, no intention to cross anyone with this statement.

... True.

I think the OP is gone in the meanwhile, so this probably is all aftertalk anyway.
Now, I can go back to waiting for my 3 new coolant chamber screws to arrive Rolling Eyes

Yeah. I just like to show off.
Can you imagine how impressed my friends will be, when I show them those brand new stainless steel screws?
Actually, the smallest package I could find had 20 of those screws in it Wink

You can always run component out to the 708, as it will accept a component signal at 480i, 480p, 1080i or 720p. No, there's nothing cheaper than $250ish to convert HDMI to RGBHV unless you find a used Fury online somewhere.

READ THAT FAQ! It will answer a bunch of questions.

I read it! I swear!! Very Happy

I think that given the extra price there, I have a lot to consider. Especially given that this is going from a $200 adventure to a $500+ adventure, it's really starting to feel like this might not be the time for a CRT setup (although I would love one eventually!) I'm just gona have to take time and consider my options!

Thanks to everyone for the advice! Especially Curt Palme and eecrab!

I feel that curt has really overstated the cost involved of that hdmi adaptor.

You can still buy the HDfury version one (I have one and it works great on ps3/xbox/set top box) for just $99 USD new at the official site. go to

http://www.hdfury.com/buy-hdfury-now/

and scroll down.

I dont feel that at all, the HD Fury 3 i have is a MAJOR leap foward from the HD Fury 1, and id gladly pay extra for it. The first and second ones are quite basic compared to the 3rd, and lack a couple pretty important features... Then there is the 4th, which is better again.

Youd be out of your mind to consider $99 for a HD Fury 1 a good deal!!

So should I upgrade to the HD Fury 2 to the 3 for my 10PG? Will there be that much of a difference in the video?

Not so much in image quality, but there is the ability to H shift with it, which can make some resolutions easier to set up on a PG.

But also i think youll find the 3 has higher bandwidth than the 2 as well. If it was me i would, but if it was a question of a HDF1, id be doing the change in an instant without a second thought.
