BEV offers 1 3D channel 1933 . Viewing on a 720 plasma I see similar but different images side by side. I'm not actually trying to watch this , just curious why a 3D picture would present this way when viewed without 3 D gear.

The satellite equipment and box are designed to transmit only a couple of kinds of video, say 480i, 720p, and 1080i... Not 3D because it wasn't even around when the system was designed. So, each view in the stereo pair has to be 'encoded' somehow in a normal video format that the system can transmit.

In this case, they're encoding the two images side-by-side. On a compatible box/TV, it would break the frame into two, stretch them across the screen, and then flicker the two frames alternately in sync with active glasses, or interlaced with a polarizer and passive glasses.

Some systems are encoded over/under, some use the "checkerboard" format, and still others are interlaced.
