I saw it in the high 3d mode at the theaters and I wonder if anyone has heard if they are going to release that version?

Blu-ray cannot handle 48fps 3D.

They will likely remove every other frame for the Blu-ray. It's called 'Skip Printing'. They also did that when they created 35mm prints for theaters that can't do 48fps (the ones that only support standard 24fps).

The Blu-ray 3D video format supports:

1920x1080x23.976-p x 2
1280x720x59.94-p x 2
1280x720x50-p x 2

See page 41 of the spec here:

http://www.blu-raydisc.com/assets/Downloadablefile/BD-ROM_Audio_Visual_Application_Format_Specifications-18780.pdf

48p is not supported.

Yep I cannot wait for this movie to come out myself! The Hobbit was very good indeed! I just hope they can get the rest of the movies made before the Gandolf actor dies lol.

The desolation of smaug (the hobbit part 2) is scheduled for release on December 12th 2013. That is a whole year sooner than was advertised. I hope Gandolf is ok.

will there be an extended edition? For LOTR, the theatrical versions suck compared to the uncut editions.

Thanks for the spoiler. I presumed since this was a thread asking about a movie release date it wasn't going to get littered with spoilers. My bad. Assnut filter engaged.

Pretty common knowledge about the hobbit 2 release. Hope I didn't accidentally insult anyone. No spoiler intended.
