Hi... my name is Jonathan and i'm from Germany. (so sry if my english sucks Smile

i'm new to crt prjectors.

my problem is:

When i start up the projector everything works fine. I can calibrate (with internal grid) and so on.

When the Projector is running the yellow LEDs are all on exept the HTHD (it is on but darker than the others) Seems like the HTHD is shorted some how when i try to select a source.
.
But when i try to choose a source (i tried composite video, s-video and RGBHV) i hear a hgh frequency humming noise... the red LED on the V-board lights up and the HDHT LED goes even darker.

Then i get the message on the screen that the source is not available an i should check cables.

my V-board is a 761768 and it seems that somebody did some modifications to it. (traces cut and small cables soldered on)
(i try to upload pictures later)

my H-board is a 761766

my SMPS is a 761770... seems to be modded, too (capacitors, cables solderd on to the backside of the PCB, traces cut) pics later.

has anyone a idea what i can do to find the problem?

im happy for any response!!

thx in advance!!

Jonathan

If you're getting an image on screen, the HTHD is fine. Your problem, as you suspect, is on the RGB input board most likely. I've got them at $35 plus about $15 shipping if you want one. THe problem could also be on the quad decoder next to the RGB input board, but I doubt it.

Hi Curt...

thx for your ultra fast reply! Thumbs Up

is it posible to find the mistake on the RGB input board and to repair it? or do i have to change the whole RGB input board?

are there parts that commonly fail?

For $50 you want to repair it? Feel free! Smile There's many problems on that board that can cause the issue that you're seeing, without a scope, meter and the extender boards to bring the board out of the set while it is turned on, you'll have a real challenge trying to find what's wrong. That's why unless they are later model sets, I don't really bother repairing the 800 boards any more, it's cheaper to sell you a tested working one.

10 days typically to get to Germany.

I make my living repairing boards, so I'm sorry, it does not make sense for me to give you ideas on how to repair it.

You really should just buy the parts even to have spares to test issues.
