Just found this post. I had buttoned up the unit until a decision on parts was made. I'll check that, but if you have it could you please send a board diagram? That board is a little buried and it would be helpful to know where that cap is located.

It is right in front of pin 2 of CN21 that you have disconnected.

I was also thinking and if you don't mind doing some minor modification you can just use a standard 3 leg 5v 5a regulator. If your friend has one or if there is a radio shack near you or even a local tv repair shop. Mod would be very simple.

Sure, I would be fine with a mod. As long as it works then we can verify nothing else is wrong with the unit. Is there a specific regulator you had in mind?

Nothing in particular. Depends on where you try and get it from. Just look for +5v 5a regulator.

Also I would like you to make 1 more test on that video board. Locate C795 (100u/16v) and with DMM on resistance test between the neg side of the cap and pin 5 of CN21.

A bit challenging of a location (and I'm sure there are worse), but I was able to find continuity between the two test points.

How much continuity? Give me a reading on both diode setting and resistance.

Sorry - There was NO continuity. It was OPEN. Multitasking too much while writing that. My bad.

Alright. Installing regulator then should solve problem, or at least that one.....

It's been a challenge to find a 5A 5V LDO regulator. A few online, but nothing local or at Radio Shack. Still looking. Must be an NTE there somewhere...(though I usually bite my lip when I buy NTE...)

I'm looking for 5A out, 5V out. Input is 16 V. Many of these are variable or have a voltage range. Can the input voltage be larger than 16? The outputs must match, though, right?

The circuit input is +8v, so the input voltage must be in that range. Min can be less and max can be more but 8v must be in there. Also it must be a fixed output.

Hello and Greetings once again!

This follow-up has been long overdue, however some personal challenges kept me off the board for a while. I did want to report that macgyver655 did a terrific job of helping me through the daunting task of cracking open an AVR for repair for the very first time. Fortunately I took lots of digital pictures and only had to throw out a few handfuls of parts because I didn't know where they went.

It turned out that the issue was a rare, hard to find 5V 5A regulator that Mac persisted in locating, and finally secured a supply of. 5A regulators like this one are pretty much unobtainium. Turns out that Marantz had it but a single unit would have been over $20 with shipping, and if you've ever installed a new component only to have it go poof due to diagnostic replacement you know how quickly costs can get out of hand. So if you've got a similar scrambled display issue with a Marantz SR-7002 (or one of the SR-family) receiver, check in with Mac about these regulators. The part number should be somewhere in this thread.

Also, Mac generously offered to help me get it running now, and afterwards I could become a member here or just make a contribution. Couldn't be more fair than that! So I'm happy to report that I just became a member and wanted to publicly send kudos to Mac for a superior job of mentoring above and beyond the call of duty.

Thanks for supporting the forum. It's a wealth of knowledge and a great place to hang out.

Glad you got your receiver going! Thumbs Up

Hi :

My name is Carlos , live in Sweden and I am a happy owner of a Marantz SR8002, but I have a problem, I have been configuring my remote control Philips TS9600 soon, and testing with my amplifier, Philips TS9600 remote control turn off the display of my Marantz .

I did a master reset of the Marantz SR8002 and the display doesn't light up, took the amplifier to a service center and tell me that everything is correct, there is no defective component,.

You could suggest me a possible solution

Tank you

Regards

Carlos,

You might be better off to start a new thread. It would make it easier for other forum members with the same problem you have to find the thread.

Curious - If the service center says the unit is fine - why didn't they return it to you with the display working? They would have to have a working display in order to test it.

Perhaps contact Marantz and/or Philips customer service/tech support?
