|

Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone had a great start to 2013.
Life here is good, but my Marquee once again, has a problem.
The pic.
The image looks folded at the bottom of the image, top of the tube. ONLY on Red.
The lines were gone after replacing the VNB, so solved one problem, maybe.
I changed the VIM to a spare, no change.
I removed the HDM, cleaned the pins, and replaced, no change, I do not have a working spare HDM.
I removed the CLM, removed the DPB and SWB, cleaned the pics, and replaced, no change.
I removed all the plugs from the Convergence, Vertical and Stig boards, cleaned, and replaced, no change.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
Happy newyear to you too!
Couldn't be the VDM? Since the problem in the vertical plane. I have a spare HDM (without the daughter board) that works. I could send it to you for testing if you want. It doesn't give max width at 50 hz but at least it could give you the possibility to check if the problem is in the HDM.
Just let me know.
Cheers,
Ron.

+1 for VDM
HDM circuitry is the same for all three tubes only the correction coils are independent, while the vertical drive is independent for each tube.

Hi Ron,
Hope you have had a break over the christmas new year holidays.
I am looking to buy a spare working HDM, but complete. I have 2 main HDM boards here, and 4 daughter boards, non of them work, in any combination.
I have pulled the Vertical board out after posting, as I was also thinking vertical problem.
Will try to find my spare, and test for the fix.
Cheers for both comments.

Hey Steve
Swap yoke plugs on the VDM, see if the problem moves or stays on red.

Replace with an NEC? Never had a Marquee, but the only prob I've ever had with my 6 NEC's is a bad System board on 1 of my PG's which Curt soon fixed me up with a replacement

Hey Steve
Put up a picture of the red test pattern at the screen so we can see better.

Green tube face
Red Tube face
Can not show the effect at the moment, as it is still daytime here, too much light.
But I can see when watching in dark conditions, the red below the screen.
Cheers

I think it's that screw you dropped behind the red deflection yolk........

Ha ha, It could be, if only the projector was not ceiling mounted.

Hey Steve
You are seeing a water line; add some glycol.

interesting Tim
I did not think of that, but this started about a week ago.
Definately no glycol leaking from the bellows. I would see it all over the covers and wood flooring.
As it would be a lot of leakage, if it was.
Appreciate your thoughts and ideas.
Cheers

I'm with Tim, that looks like your glycol level is low on the red tube. Look into the lens with the set off, it should be obvious with a flashlight.

Maybe this is just showing up because of the level of glycol,
Does glycol evaporate???
I know it can sweat through the bellows, but mine are not sweating.
Would seem like a lot of glycol gone.
Will check it out once my Wife has finished watching her junk TV.
Cheers

The tubes have nearly 9000hrs on them since they were installed.
Possibly a factor if it is low glycol.
Much Appreciate the advice.
Cheers

you can leak that much glycol without any showing up on the floor. the chassis has enough nooks and crannies that it will trap plenty of fluid and hold it. You can have a few tablespoons just sitting on the lead shielding
If the tube is full, I would suspect a faulty deflection coil.

have you tried swapping the neckboards?
the creefet mod on the hdm will drastically reduce temp but introduces some uneven brightness seen in light scenes (eg clouds or blue skies).
