Hello there,
What could possibly be the problem with a Sony 1271 regarding thin (horizontal) lines moving from bottom to top? it seems this problem remains there throughout every resolution / Hz I'm testing it with.

Ground loop most likely. Make sure your source and projector are plugged into the same outlet, and if you have cable or satelite disconnect the incoming co-axial cable to see if the issue goes away.

Thanks, with source you mean (in this case) my computer, right? I've tried a couple of sockets in my place but the problem remains. It is also there when facing the start up screen. The one with where it tells you to wait 20 minutes.
What else could this possibly be?

Does the projector exhibit this behavior with everything unplugged save for the power cord? If so, then not a ground loop.
Do the lines follow in brightness with picture content when you adjust contrast, or no? Do the lines change in number or speed, or are all they always constant?

Sadly it does indeed, it stays there.
I tried to took a picture to indicate the problem, therefore I included a picture of the 'warm-up' screen.
Probably its just my eye's, but in this screen the lines do not move. However when connecting my PC the lines seem to move rather slow over the screen, moving from the top of the screen downwards

Be sure to play it in 720p and ignore the obviously noticeable lines, its all about the ones in the blue area of my windows desktop.
It might not look that bad, but honestly the screen like this is not usable, its very very noticeable when watching a movie or anything else.
It also does not change with Brightness/Contrast increase/decrease.

Is this a projector you just got or a problem that just appeared?
Is it floor or ceiling mounted?
Is the PC shut down and unplugged when trying the warm up screen?

It's a projector I just got, It's on the floor. No the PC is not shut down and unplugged when trying to warm up the screen (that is what you see on the picture + movie), however I did try to unplug all devices from it and boot it up. Still stripes. Any suggestion?

My point was anything running in the vicinity could be causing interference.
Does the projector plug have 3 prongs?

Not anything that I can think of, there are not that many devices here in the room. Only a computer and this Beamer. I used to use a Sony 1251 with no 'line' problem, so I assume its something internal rather than external.
Uhm, do you mean the cable which provides the 1271 with power? if so, yes it has 3 prongs. The cable however is about 2 meters long. Will try a smaller one when its dark enough!

Do you have a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter to try?

Do you have a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter to try? |
Or, if you have a spare power cord (it's a standard computer power cord), break the ground pin off the one cord, and plug it in that way to see if the lines go away.

If the lines are moving that suggests an electric motor making noise.

Thanks for all the suggestions and info. Tonight I will try to cut off one of the pins to see if that will fix the problem. In fact there is a electric motor (a fan I suppose?) which is rather noisy. Will give an update later on. Thanks again!

I apologize, all my power cords already have 2 prongs and not 3.
Is there anything else I can try to do to possibly overcome this very annoying problem?
My beamer right now is absolutely not usable right now which is a shame!
