So I now have 2 NEC XG1351LC's and am not really sure what to do next. I'm considering doing a stack, or polarized 3d, and or just using 1 and keeping the other for parts, or selling parts if the demand/price is right. What are your thoughts on the matter, what would you do? [/quote]

Polorized 3d sounds like a fun project.

then try stack or Blend.

And all I need is polarizing filters and a computer with nvidia 3d + 2 vga outputs? And how do I set it up and converge the images? And what are the differences between stack and blend? Thanks guys, your help is greatly appreciated.

ok so i now understand the difference between blend and stack, but correct me if i'm wrong, polarized 3d would be a blend, since each projector displays the same image directly on top of each other, right?

also, side question, is there a quick way to zero out settings for calibration? and do you need to zero out the point convergence settings, or does that happen automatically when other, less precise settings are changed, (i.e. static convergence, tilt, bow, etc.)?

Also, are you supposed to offset the images, or should it be identical to a properly configured stack, just with filters added?

Hi,

No offset. Both images have to be exactly on the same spot. Of course You'll have to align everything using an identical image for PJ1 and PJ2 (=2D mode).
This is a simplified setup procedure:

- Mount both PJs close together (side by side or top/bottom)
- Let them run for approx. 30 minutes for warm-up
- Do a rough alignment of the tube angles (mechanical horizontal raster centering)
- Do a rough alignment of mechanical and electrical focus on both machines. Don't care for geometry and convergence at this point. You might combine that with scheimpflug adjustment or do that later
- Display a test grid (green only) and mechanically align the PJs to be centered on the screen and having the mid-point of the grid at the same spot
- Do a full geometry and convergence alignment for PJ1 (this is the reference PJ). You may as well tune focus and stigmators (if present) at this point
- Display a test grid (green only) and adjust geometry of PJ2 for best matching the grid displayed from PJ1
- Align red convergence of PJ2 onto the green grid displayed from PJ1
- Adjust green and blue convergence on PJ2
- Do the white balance adjustments on both PJs (if necessary)

Of course You might need to readjust geometry and/or convergence for several times...

Regards,
barclay66

Josh,
Do you have these set up in the same room I was in?
If so, can you still get in the room to sleep?

All NECs have full convergence control over all three colours. There isnt much you cant do with their convergence really... Except f### it up i spose...

Best way i can see to do it with NECs is do projector one complete, then turn on projector two, and use red from projector one as reference for green on projector 2. Dont try lining green up with green cause it wont be near as easy as lining green to red. Forget blue. Its not bright enough.

Very good point!
This makes alignment much easier. I was having the Barco and Marquee convergence menus in mind and there everything is built around green as a reference. Barco PJs even need an additional board (COG board) in order to perform green-only adjustments. And on Marquees it's hidden in the menus.

I've edited the procedure in my post accordingly...

@freidich

I set up a 10PG stack in my basement for test purposes. Picture punch was awesome but the whole story had too many drawbacks for practical use so I gave up.

If you happen to live close to Dormagen, Germany, I'd be happy to come around and give you a hand with your stack.

Cheers

A stack should be much more difficult in comparison to a blend.

You really need absolute perfect focus and convergence on both projectors.

Go for the blend and have reserve for bandwidth.

1)...test patter for 3d dual screen calibration:
2)...dual output not via nvidia Geforce 3D vison. On Geforce only until Forceware 162.50 plus streo driver 162.50 and up to 7900GTX/7950GT no SLI and no 8-, 9-, 200-, 400-, 500-, 600 series g-force. But IZ3D or Tridef DDD driver can do the job on PC.
3)@Barclay 66: are you palnning or doing a dual 3d setup? I have a Barco DUET II here....
