That would be a great service, though board specific would be even better.
Good luck for the rest.

Hi,
For my Marquee project I made the list attached to this post. Maybe its structure can be of help...

Hi,
Thank You. I had to pay attention to the dimensions because space was limited in some areas (either diameter, height or both)...

Marc | I don't doubt that it's a special cap. Electrohome used film caps with extremely high voltage ratings in a similar location . Anyway, I'm glad this was posted, looks like I will need to run the set and check those 2.
On a side not, the Digikey site has an excellent search engine where you can toggle almost any parameter. You can get a cap in those specs and dimensions with a full 1.2amp ripple rating, and correct size/ lead spacing. It's an Epcos cap, which I think is who made the original ?

BTW, the reason I replaced these is the factory wire-bundle plastic tie-clip was right over these, and when they shut the lid it left a huge dent in the top of one and partially tore the foil at the rupture seam.

According to this german forum topic the Rubycon LPHR can stand 8-18A p-p Current at 10-100kHz range

Not sure where I found it (it was long ago) but capacitor replacement list for PG plain powersupply is already exsiting, so I repost it, I hope the original author don't mind it. It wasn't me who did this.

Wow! You guys are unreal! What's nice about this list is it is specific to the board. The service manual isn't quite as friendly. It does show the location but provides no further reference without going back to the prints.

ok .... so there are 338 electrolytic capacitors consisting of 48 unique values in a PG series projector. Replacing all of these will be a very daunting task so I will be starting with the deflection board and power supplies and see what happens from there.

Don't worry, I did exactly the same thing on a 9PG just a few weeks ago, It's a lot of fun

Thanks for the heads up. I have yet to shop around for the caps but I will take your advice on the replacements. I've pretty much used Newark as my supplier in the past so Ill see what they have available. I'm open to suggestions if you think I should inquire elsewhere.

I did it on the whole machine, but I didn't make a accurate list of parts, and as it turned out I missed some caps, so "only" 95% of the caps were replaced (and intentionally left the bipolar caps and tantallum caps alone). I did some simplyfication with cap values too, for example a 100uF cap is present in 6.3V 10V, 16V, 25V, 35V, 50V values and I only ordered 16V and 50V (low esr) types and that covered the whole range (except the system boards, because the 100u/50V were too big for them) you can do the same with 47uF caps.
I used cheap jamicon caps for the regular places, and various Chinise low-esr caps for more critical places, and Rubycon YXF (low-esr) for power supply bypass. While I know the Chinise caps are not the best, but they will support the machine until the tubes will be toasted. The new caps costed yet almost 100$.

Considering I got the PJ for free, $100 and the time to recap is a fair price to pay. I have a line on a vacuum desoldering station to help me safely remove the old caps where I can't get to the old leads.

I guess you haven't read "all" the threads on this subject, lol. Attempting to remove "any" caps in a NEC projector by desoldering is not wise. If the leads are not long enough to clip the old cap off with enough to solder to then you should bend the cap sideways until the insides of the old cap pull out and are left standing up on the board and then clipped off leaving enough to solder the new cap to. Attempting to desolder will surely damage the board. I have repaired to many damaged traces on NEC boards to recommend any other way to replace.

Mac! You're the man! Obviously I have not read all the threads on the subject. .:.LOL! I've read a bunch but never read anything specific to desoldering NEC boards. I'm going to take your advice. Thank you! Hopefully I'll have some time later this week to place the order for the caps.
Merry Christmas!

Mac you're right, however I removed 80% of the caps with the conventional way, and only hurt maybe two traces of the hundreds of caps (Sytem boards are bitches, I also cut the caps there). If the caps started to leak and the electrolyte already spilled to the PWB it is much harder to clean the board if you just cut off the legs instead of removing them correctly.

I did an entire set worth of boards using a cheap 45 watt soldering iron and a GOOT solder sucker and never damaged a thing, but thats not the point, i sure as hell would not be doing it that way again when its WAY easier to cut the legs off or pull the cap off its legs with pliers
