No They sold the rights for the Kuro stuff to panasonic I am sure. But now Samsung has a new panel out and they say they are continuing into Plasma research for the future. No plans to drop it. Very Happy

Pioneer sold the Elite brand name to Sharp. They only sold some of their Kuro tech/patents/research to Panasonic.

Damn pioneer, just HAD to go and ruin the worlds best plasma displays....

I don't think they sold their entire Elite brand to sharp, unless sharp is producing all of their elite line of receivers/blu ray etc...

Correct, it was just the Elite brand for their display division.

What's really depressing is that Pioneer demoed their ultra-thin plasmas and their absolute black (zero luminance) displays the year before they went out of business. Had the world economy not taken a sh*t in 08/09, we may have seen those come to market. I'm sure they would have been sold at the standard Kuro Elite prices, but I personally would have paid it for that kind of display. Zero luminance blacks is one of the holy grails of display tech - and here we are 5 years later waiting patiently for OLED to deliver them instead of plasma.

Screw OLED, its nice yes, far superior than LCD, but I still like plasma, it has that CRT like quality, which is why I am a proud owner of a 61" pioneer professional display. You'll have to kill me then pry my cold dead hands off of it to get it from me too.

I really do wish Pioneer made displays still. It was the one thing I think they were actually better at than any other company for display tech. It sure surpassed their audio stuff IMO...

Yeah, I'm expecting my 111FD and 151FD will be hanging for another 5 years before I find a suitable replacement, which will most likely be an OLED display of at least 60".
