Not everyone is getting out of CRT. We had the most viscious electrical storm I have ever seen back in September. Knocked out both projectors. The weirdest effect was that the four 2.4 kw Seaton Submersive subs all of a sudden turned on at full volume, blasting either pink noise or white noise (I didnt bother to measure). The wife thought we were having an earthquake, and yelled for eveyone to go to the basement. When we got down there, we discovered the source of the the house shaking rumbling was the subs. The DSP-30 had gotten very confused. I turned it off, and the house stopped shaking.

Anyways, the real point of the story is that both blend projectors were screwed up. The red and blue on green convergence of the right projector was corrupted, making the image look terrible. There was no convergence control to fix the problem. The left projector would not start up at all. As finishing up my dissertation took precedence, the projectors sat unused, until this weekend.

I had a couple of conversations with Mike Parker. He suggested that the deflection processor daughterboard on the left projector CLM was fried. Replacing the deflection processor board with an older non-Ultra board confirmed the diagnosis. Just today, I swapped in a new (used) Ultra-level deflection procesor board, and fixed the left projector.

The right projector was more of a pain. Both Mike and I felt that the electrical storm had corrupted the geometry setttings stored on the CLM. Problem was that the laptop where I had the old setting files stored would not start up (just llike the left projector). The laptop system board was bad. This past Monday I ordered a used one on Ebay. It arrived on Wednesday. Yesterday I completed rebuilding the laptop. Today I downloaded the existing corrupted settings using Marquee Loader, and uploaded the most recent set of non-corrupted settings I had, from 2009 November. That fixed the corrupted file problem, but of course, the convergence now needed some work. I spent the entire afternoon re-converging first the right projector, then matching the left projector to the right projector. The result is an image to die for. (Picture has not looked this good since the last time Ken was here, calibrating the blend.) As I type this, I am watching the Sunday Night Football in America Packers - Giants game. CRT IS NOT DEAD!!! (Neither is blending.)

Nash,

Let me know if you think the PR-650 would make a difference. If so, I send it right out to you.

Hope all is well and you were actually able to enjoy a little family time on Thanksgiving!

I wonder if Tom Got it to work in Chromapure?

I'll let you know.

Athanasios

Yes, it works in CP Pro again. You have to power on the PR650 and then press the "Initialize" button in CP within a few seconds for the two to work together. Once initialized it is good to go.
