The SD card slot is most commonly used when people remove the SD card from their digital camera, and insert it to view their photos on the TV.

TV-101W.

It really is cool. I am going to get another unit for the TV upstairs and will able to stream from the NAS to that as well.

I know Craig did a lot of homework to get these things working together.

I think Don's plan is to get a BASE 4.0 3D when it comes out, and then he's going to move the 101 upstairs.

I have a similar plan. When the BASE 4.0 3D comes out I am putting that in the theater, moving a BASE 3 up to the bedroom, and selling the 101 I have up there now.

Coolest thing about a NAS is that it serves multiple rooms with the same media files through the same user interface.

I'm not sur that its for a camera at all. My Sony bd550 has one and it stores what you were watching. I think it has something to do with updating the firmware over the internet connection.

Or disabling features, ala OPPO Laughing

Even though its not Oppo's fault.

Plausible?

They open like a book from the back side where the power supply and USB port are.
I opened about 15 of the earlier model. looks like the same design.

You will break off tabs when you do it, so will not be original condition once you do it.

How do you remove the tabs and where are they ? I assume this voids the warranty on the drive itself...

Look for a youtube video on removing the drives from their enclosures. It is really easy and you can get them apart without breaking the tabs... just don't "open them like a book" Smile

I use a dull table knife and just insert it between the seam on the back side. Then I just separate it a very small amount. I hold that small separation apart with a hand and then stick the knife into the opposite seam. Make another small separation. Then you slide (pull) the front from the back.

I broke the tabs off the very first one I ever opened a few years ago, but I haven't broken any tabs since.

I've got piles of extra covers here without broken tabs.

Also, I had an external fail once and WD covered it under warranty as a bare drive. I just put the drive serial number into their web page when it failed and they sent me a new bare drive. The warranty period is the same for both external and internal drives.

Also, if you use WD green drives be sure to run WDIdle3.exe on them to shut off the parking feature. You can get a live DOS boot disc CD with WDIdle3 on it through the link below:

http://www.jzab.de/content/wdidle-bootcd

You might discover that you need to set your MB to IDE instead of AHCI to get it to work. This seems to depend on build date of the drives and varies from month to month.

Also, people have reported that disabling parking makes the drives run bad. I have never seen this problem and have always completely disabled parking. To do this when the live CD boots up just type:

wdidle3 /r

This will display parking time curently set (usually 8 seconds). Then type:

wdidle3 /d

This disables parking. Then type:

wdidle3 /r

to verify parking was disabled.

If you want to keep some parking enabled set the drives to park after 300 seconds (maximum time). Type wdidle3 /300.
